Dear Putnam Valley Community:
Here are the weekly updates and important reminders:
School Budget Vote: Please remember to get out and vote on Tuesday, May 18. Voting will take place from 6 am to 9 pm at Putnam Valley Elementary School. Please visit our website www.pvcsd.org for more detailed budget information. Please see some of our budget highlights below:
Proposed budget:
- Below the allowable tax levy cap (10th consecutive year)
- 1.9% increase in the tax levy
- Tax rate remains lower than it was 8 years ago
- Balances educational programs with community economic needs
Board Trustee Election: Two seats are open and two candidates are running. Barbara Parmly (incumbent) and Helen Horvitz will be on the ballot. Guy Cohen is not seeking reelection. I would like to extend my gratitude to Guy Cohen for his 30+ years of voluntary service to the Putnam Valley School District.

Budget Presentation (May 4): https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1BmDiKav79C620TSgf1Po_eq_T7pf5VP0IECd2x91K3U/
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Jill Figarella or myself if you have any questions regarding our proposed budget for the 2021-2022 school year. In the event the budget fails to achieve voter approval, the district would be forced to cut an additional $745,018 from the proposed budget.
Positive Cases: This past week we had one all remote student test positive. The Putnam County 7-day positive rate is currently 1.1%.
School Calendar Change: I anticipate the following changes being made to our end-of-year schedule.
- Thursday, June 24: ½ day for ES and MS students, HS students are in their Regents Week – last day of testing.
- Friday, June 25: No school for ES and MS students, Rating Day for the HS.
Enjoy this beautiful weather and have a great weekend!
Thank you,
Dr. Jeremy Luft
Superintendent of Schools
