PV Schools

Dear Putnam Valley Community:

We are heartbroken to share that one of our beloved teachers, Mr. Mark Trabakino, died suddenly at Putnam Hospital on Friday evening. Mr. Trabakino taught at the High School since it opened in 2000 and has also provided his educational expertise at our Middle School. Mr. Trabakino had a warm heart and uplifting mindset. He was full of good energy and never passed a student or teacher without an enthusiastic greeting. He exemplified the attributes of a master teacher in his ability to forge positive and empowering relationships with students, families and colleagues. We know this is a great loss to our community, and please be assured that we are prepared to support all our students, parents and staff during this difficult time.

On Monday from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm the High School will be open with counseling support available in the library. On Tuesday, when school resumes, there will be district and regional support staff available in all of our buildings to meet the needs of our students and staff. There will also be comfort dogs at the high school.

For those who would like to attend services, calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

Please join us in extending our deepest sympathies to Mark Trabakino’s family at this time. Personal condolences can be sent to the school and will be forwarded to the family.

We have included a link to resources for parents who may be looking for guidance in supporting their children.

Sincerely,

Dr. Frances Wills
