Dear PVHS Families,
One more day until the Holiday Break for students! I want to remind everyone that progress comments are now visible on Powerschool for the five-week marking period. If things are too hectic around the house, have your child login to PowerSchool on their laptop right in front of you to show you their grades. This is an easy way to check your child’s progress.
We are almost half way through the year and January is the midpoint when we traditionally hold midterm exams. However, this year due to the potential for student quarantines and the cancellation of The New York State January Regents, PVHS is not giving midterms this year. As a result, the entire month of January will follow our normal schedule and there will be no special days for testing. Teachers may give large assessments, but no midterm exams will be given.
Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 25th! We will hold a special IB Information Night for all 9th and 10th grade parents at 7pm in the High School Library to hear about the IB program at PVHS.
The 2022 Course Selection Guide will also be sent out in January. Please be on the lookout for this important booklet that has all the information you need to assist your child in making the best course choices for the next school year.
We want to make a special mention that ALL seniors spent the past week preparing for their IB internal oral assessment in English. Students had to present a 15 minute oral commentary without notes comparing and contrasting a literary and non-literary media. This commentary was also followed by specific questions from the teacher. These commentaries are recorded and graded as part of the student’s final IB grade. These presentations required a great deal of time and effort on the part of students and we are all incredibly proud of how they have challenged themselves and risen to these rigorous standards.
We hope that the holiday season brings each of our families time for rest, joy and relief from our current COVID worries. We are hopeful that 2022 will be a better year with more balance, pleasure and happiness for everyone in our school community.
Happy Holidays,
Dr. Sandra Sepe
Mr. Matt Mello
