Dear Parents and Guardians,

At this point, all midterm and 2nd quarter grades have been finalized in Powerschool. We will also be mailing home report cards to ensure that all parents have the opportunity to view their child’s school progress. If you notice that your child’s grades have gone down, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s guidance counselor or teachers. As a support, we have a thriving Achievement Center in place which is a class where your child can get needed help with school work and general organization if needed.

Additionally, last week grades 9,10, and 11 met with the Guidance Department to introduce the course selection process. Sophomores learned how to access Naviance and our juniors began the college application process and learned about important upcoming dates. Teachers presented course pathways, outlined processes for Honor Societies and introduced new courses in our fully updated course catalogue.

New courses at PVHS for 2018-2019 include:

  • AP Computer Science A
  • Horror, Supernatural, and Stephen King
  • How Do You Know?
  • Introduction to Innovation & Design Process
  • Introduction to Piano
  • Introduction to Film
  • Meteorology Elective
  • Studio in Advanced Art

Please review the 2018-2019 Course Catalogue with your child so that they are prepared to meet with their counselor for scheduling.

This week at PVHS Mrs. Wayne, Miss Noto and Mrs. Anderson have organized “Say Hello Week” through the Sandy Hook Promise Organization. The goal of the week is to connect students who feel socially isolated. We have several activities planned to build inclusiveness within our school. https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/startwithhelloweek

On Wednesday we will be recognizing over 25 students with our Student Spotlight program highlighting students who show attributes such as, awareness, perseverance, integrity, respect and empathy for others.

Our Science Research students did very well at a recent SUNY Albany competition. PVHS had several students receive awards and qualify for a larger competition in March.

Our Boys and Girls Basketball teams are powerhouses this year! We look forward to following them each in the playoffs which will be coming up at the end of the month. Wrestling and Cheerleading are also very strong and we have high hopes for everyone in the postseason!

Sincerely,

Sandra Intrieri
