Dear PVHS Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! With the 2nd semester closely approaching, it’s time to begin scheduling students for next year. Please review our updated 21-22 Course Selection Guide that can be located on our website under “INFORMATION” on the right-hand column. PVHS Website. Mr. Mello and I will also be holding a Listening Hour on Thursday, January 21st at 6:30 pm to address any questions you may have on course schedules for your child. On Wednesday, January 27th, at 6:30 pm, we will be holding an IB Information Night for 10th-grade parents and students. The night is designed to answer your questions about how our new International Baccalaureate Program can benefit your child. Before the meeting, check out our IB Information Corner on the left-hand side of our website. There are videos and a variety of helpful resources to help you gain basic knowledge about the program. Mr. DeGregorio and Mr. Lathrop, our IB Coordinators, will be the facilitators for the evening.
On Tuesday, January 26th, there will be no classes for students in the building or remotely. Juniors signed up for the PSATs will come to the building for PSAT testing beginning at 8:00 am. Our normal morning and after school bus runs will be available. The exam will last approximately 3 hours. Juniors are free to stay in the building to complete schoolwork, take a special midday bus run home, or be signed out by a parent or guardian who is listed on the emergency contact list on PowerSchool.
Seniors who have been requested to come in for IB Internal Assessments or extra help should report by 10:00 am unless otherwise directed or scheduled by their teacher. No 9th and 10th graders will come to the high school building on that day. Teachers will have asynchronous lessons posted on Google Classroom for students at home.

At PVHS, we have a continuous goal to develop citizens who are equipped with the skills and attitudes to make decisions that will result in a fair and productive society. That being said, PVHS has traditionally shown the Presidential Inauguration regardless of the political party taking office. We had every intention of continuing with this important educational practice for this year. However, due to the COVID situation and the hybrid schedule, this will not be possible. Many social studies classes will show clips of the Inauguration on Thursday and Friday. This will enable all classes at the same grade level to view vetted clips of the ceremony for instructional purposes.
Each social studies classroom will address the Inauguration differently depending on the curriculum for the course. 9th and 10th-grade social studies classes will not spend significant time teaching about the event due to the World History curriculum. However, 11th and 12th-grade social studies classes will have a variety of lessons from looking at the tenets of a good Inaugural speech to broader discussions on citizenship and the evolution of democracy.
