Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Putnam Valley High School Course Selection Guide has been updated for the 2020-2021 school year.  This Course Catalogue will provide you with all of the academic information, graduation requirements, and course descriptions that your child will need to fill out a course of study for the next school year.

Putnam Valley High School is very excited to be the first school in Putnam County to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program for our students. The IB program focuses on developing the whole child through six subject areas and also the Diploma Program Core where students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service. In addition to the International Baccalaureate Program, Putnam Valley High School also offers valuable elective courses, such as, Science Research, and several Arts and Humanities electives. Please take time to read through the course catalogue to familiarize yourself with our course offerings so that you can assist your child in the scheduling process for this year.  Your child’s guidance counselor will meet with your child this spring to design his/her academic program. We strongly encourage your child to take the most challenging academic courses available to them, which include the opportunity to take four years of math, and science courses.

At Putnam Valley High School, we pride ourselves on providing our students with a supportive and caring environment that is focused on developing a well-rounded program for all of our students. If you have any questions about the new International Baccalaureate Program or the scheduling process, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s guidance counselor with your inquiry.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sandra Intrieri

Principal
