Dear PVMS Families,
February is here with the second half of our school year now under way. Our weather patterns continue to be unpredictable with rain and temperatures in the upper forties one week and then temperatures dropping to the teens or below with flurries the next week. It looks like our lakes finally have some ice for those of you that enjoy ice skating, ice fishing, or just going for a walk on the frozen abyss. Please ensure that your children are bundled up and dressing appropriately for outside recess when the temperature is above freezing. At the very least, they are outside at the bus stop so we encourage your children to dress in layers.
Our students will partake in their winter iReady benchmark assessments the first week of February as we are encouraging them to do their best and to show continual growth. We use this adaptive assessment to track progress and provide support for those students in need. Please keep encouraging your students to do their best with these opportunities to apply themselves and show off what they have been learning. As a reminder, we will send home paper copies of these results at the end of June.
A survey went home recently asking if families would like paper copies of report cards for the second quarter. Please do your best to respond if you haven’t done so already. As we enter the third quarter, please take the time to check Powerschool and see that your children are completing their assignments. Students should check Powerschool and Google Classroom nightly in order to be productive and to excel academically. Our teachers have been extremely flexible and we are hopeful that everyone is engaged in work completion and mastery of our standards. The third quarter has historically proven to be one of the most challenging times of the year to be motivated in coming out of the winter months. Please partner with us in order to ensure our students continue to be motivated to do their best.
The midpoint of the school year is a nice opportunity to schedule a meeting with your child’s teachers. This helps to raise awareness around expectations, what is going well, and what can be improved upon. Please contact your child’s grade level team leader to schedule a time to meet as I would encourage all families to do so at least one time throughout the school year.

Student’s second quarter report card grades will be available on Powerschool beginning Friday, February 7, 2025.
If you’d like to receive a paper copy of your child’s report card for the second quarter as well as the fourth quarter, please complete the Form attached.
*Please note, if you do not fill out the attached Opt In Form, you will not receive a paper copy of your child’s report card for the second quarter.
Thank you for partnering with us. Please be on the lookout for these in your mailboxes or check on PowerSchool and contact your child’s teacher(s) if you have any questions.
Winter Recess will take place from February 15th through February 23rd. Students will not have school on these days. Classes will resume on Monday, February 24th.
With winter in full force and the possibility of snowfall upon us, please make sure that students have a plan if we were to dismiss early. We want to ensure all students have a place to go and/or a key to a house. This will help reduce the anxiety that an early dismissal brings. In addition, our delay schedules can be found on our website.
As always, we partner to give children the best experience possible. We look forward to a great start to the second half of our school year.
Sincerely,
Travis W. McCarty
