Dear PVMS Families,

Welcome to February and the second half of our school year.  To say the year has flown by so far would be an understatement!  Our weather patterns continue to be unpredictable with rain and temperatures in the upper forties one week and then temperatures dropping to the teens with flurries the next week.  Please ensure that your children are bundled up and dressing appropriately for outside recess as we hope to continue to have your children outside enjoying some fresh air when the temperature permits.

Our students just finished their winter iReady benchmark assessments and continue to show growth. We track progress using this program. Our students participate in iReady Instruction two to four days a week during their I/E periods and teachers assign materials that work on areas of growth.  Please keep encouraging our students to do their best with these opportunities to apply themselves and show off what they have been learning.  As a reminder, we will send home paper copies of these results at the end of June.

Since the year is well under way and we have entered the third quarter, please take the time to check Powerschool and see that your children are completing their assignments.   Students should check Powerschool and Google Classroom in order to be productive and to excel academically.  Our teachers have been extremely flexible and we are hopeful that everyone is engaged in work completion and mastery of our standards.  The third quarter has historically proven to be one of the most challenging times of the year to be motivated in coming out of the winter months.

Since we have reached the midpoint of the school year it is a nice opportunity to schedule a meeting with your child’s teachers.  This helps to raise awareness around expectations, what is going well, and what can be improved upon.  Please contact your child’s grade level team leader to schedule a time to meet as I would encourage all families to do so at least one time throughout the school year.

Student’s second quarter report card grades will be available on Powerschool beginning Friday, February 2, 2024.

If you’d like to receive a paper copy of your child’s report card for the second quarter as well as the fourth quarter, please complete the Form attached.

*Please note, if you do not fill out the attached Opt In Form, you will not receive a paper copy of your child’s report card for the second and fourth quarters.

Thank you for partnering with us.  Please be on the lookout for these and contact your child’s teacher(s) if you have any questions.

Winter Recess will take place from February 17th through February 25th.  Students will not have school on these days.  Classes will resume on Monday, February 26th.

With winter in full force and the possibility of snowfall upon us, please make sure that students have a plan if we were to dismiss early.  We want to ensure all students have a place to go and/or a key to a house.  This will help reduce the anxiety that an early dismissal brings.  In addition, our delay schedules can be found on our website.

As always, we partner to give children the best experience possible.  We look forward to a great start to the second half of our school year.

Sincerely,

Travis W. McCarty
Principal
