Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Back-to-School Nights for families of Grades 1 & 2, and for Grades 3 & 4 this week.  We greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and support, and I thank our teachers who were so well prepared to share the grade level curriculum information with you. It was truly wonderful to have parents in our building again, and we are all looking forward to a strong school/home partnership throughout the year ahead.

Our PTA/PVES Picnic will take place at 5:00 today, and it looks like the weather will cooperate.  Please be sure to supervise your own children and enjoy the time with your community friends and neighbors. Thank you to the PTA for all they do for our school.

Please be reminded that students should not be bringing toys to school. These include small toys inside lunch boxes and backpacks, and toys that students would like to use outside at recess. We are providing the students with different items to play with, and it can confuse things when toys come in from home. Thank you for reviewing this policy with your child.

We are looking forward to our first full week of school next week.  Our students are gradually adjusting to their new daily schedules and routines, and we are so proud of them.  Please continue to structure consistent homework, reading, and bedtimes at home. This certainly sets your child up for great success during the school day.

PVES will begin practicing our required safety drills next week. This practice includes fire drills, lockdowns, and lock out drills. We practice these drills with reassurance and guidance so that all children feel safe and informed.

Our School Picture Day will take place on Wednesday, September 29th.  Students will be photographed individually, with group pictures possibly taking place in the spring.

Our Mandarin lessons have begun in each of our Kindergarten, First, and Second grade classes with Ms. Sharon Lum this year! We are so lucky to be able to provide our students with these weekly language lessons, and the children just love the learning!

Congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Funicelli and her husband on the birth of their baby boy Luca earlier this month! Such happy news! We welcome Ms. Caitlin McCarron who will be filling in for Mrs. Funicelli for the next few months in her Reading AIS position.

Enjoy the weekend ahead and the beautiful fall weather that is on the way.  Thank you for helping to get this school year off to such a wonderful start! I hope that you and yours are happy and well.

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
