Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Please join your friends and neighbors at the Putnam Valley Education Foundation Color Run today, which is being held at the middle school/high school campus at 2:00 PM. This is always such a fun and lively event, with lots of fresh air and exercise to be had! Thank you so much to the PVEF for all they do for our school district.  We are so very grateful for their efforts on behalf of our students. And thanks to all of you for your continued support!

In honor of First Responder Appreciation Day on October 28th, we are looking forward to our First Responder Read Aloud Day at Putnam Valley Elementary School on October 29th! If you or a family member work as a First Responder (law enforcement, firefighter, medical professional, military personnel, etc.) please respond to the survey sent out by our school district. We are looking forward to welcoming our community First Responders into our elementary classrooms, where our volunteers can share a story, talk about their typical work days, and answer questions from our young students. Once we have our volunteers, we will set up the reading schedule for that morning. Thank you so much for your time, and thank you for all that you do to keep us safe!

As you know, our students and staff are invited to bring a Halloween costume to school on Friday, October 29th, for our festivities in school. The school parade is for Students and Staff only, but we will certainly share pictures and videos on our website. If you have specific questions about your child’s classroom activities, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Please be sure that you have signed up for a November parent/teacher conference with all faculty members with whom you would like to meet. This includes classroom teachers, special area teachers, speech, ENL, clinical staff, and reading and math AIS teachers. I know these faculty members have reached out to you, but if you need assistance in connecting with them, please email me directly at mpodesta@pvcsd.org. You are welcome to meet with our faculty members in person or virtually. This is your choice. Thank you for your flexibility with appointment times, as we are aiming to meet with all parents at the end of this first quarter of the school year.  Brief Progress Reports will be shared with you by classroom teachers. This is a great time to set learning goals for the school year!

All staff and students are invited to wear ORANGE on this Wednesday, October 20th, in honor of Unity Day. Our Character Education and Diversity Committee would like to bring attention to Unity Day as we show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion, and as we work to prevent bullying in our schools and in our world. Our students are always working to be good role models, upstanders, and leaders of kindness.  Thank you to our Character Ed Committee for all they do to promote this very important work.

Enjoy the week ahead. Please be reminded that schools will be closed on Tuesday, November 2nd for Election Day (Superintendent’s Conference Day & Parent/Teacher Conferences) and on Thursday, November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
