Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you are enjoying this long weekend.  Although today is a rainy one, the fall weather in New York provides such a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fresh air, comfortable temperatures, and brilliant colors.  Our elementary students have been getting outside for recess on almost every school day, and they have adjusted wonderfully to playing in their separate cohorts while wearing their masks. We are so proud of them!

This week, our students will be participating in Fire Safety and Prevention lessons with the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department.  We thank the PVFD for spending so much time at our school and engaging with our students in a safe and meaningful way.  With social distancing, our children will be able to closely see a fire truck and learn many important safety tips about fire prevention.  We thank our community members for partnering with us!

We have a few important safety reminders about Parent Drop-off and Parent Pick-up at PVES.  Please remember that in the morning, all students must exit the cars on the PASSENGER side of the car.  This is extremely important for safety reasons.  We also want to remind everyone that parents are NOT to exit their cars at any time.  We must keep our arrival and dismissal safe and efficient, and social distancing practices must be kept in place.  Also, in the afternoon for pick-up, when pulling up to the school, we ask that you have a VISIBLE SIGN in the front window showing your child’s NAME and GRADE LEVEL.  As the cars pull up to the school, our staff members can then quickly see your child’s name and call for your child on the school radios.  This keeps our process safe, quick, and stress-free for all.  Thank you so much for your help with this!

Our classroom teachers are now beginning to schedule virtual parent conferences for our conference dates in November.  Please make sure that you sign up for these important first quarter conferences.  It is also important for you to meet with any professional support service staff members who work with your child (Speech, ENL, AIS, Counseling, etc.) and any Special Area teachers (Art, Music, Band, Physical Education, Technology) with whom you would like to discuss your child’s progress.  Conference sign-up information will be sent to you via email soon.  We thank you for your partnership and open, positive communication.

Mr. Chickery and I presented our School Re-opening PowerPoint at last week’s Board of Education Meeting.  If you were unable to view this meeting live, this presentation will be soon be visible on our website under the Board of Education tab, which will lead you to Meeting Videos. We are so proud of all that is happening in our building, and we continue to thank the elementary staff and students for making the opening of our school year such a true success!

Please be sure to always check the Notices/Flyers link with each Weekly Word for any information that may pertain to your child.  Have a great week ahead, and as always, thank you for all of your support.
