Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Welcome to Spirit Week! As we begin our last full week of school this year, please be reminded that we are celebrating our overflowing school pride with a special theme for each day.  We invite all students and staff to participate in our dress themes for each day.  Here they are, beginning with Flag Day tomorrow:

Monday, June 14th (Flag Day):  Red, White, and Blue!

Tuesday, June 15th:  Mismatch or Crazy Sock Day (your choice, or both)

Wednesday, June 16th:  Crazy Hair or Crazy Hat Day (or both)

Thursday, June 17th:  Field Day (Grade level T-shirt day)

Friday, June 18th: “Extra” Blue and White PV Pride Day (show that spirit!)

This week also marks our Big Book Give-away Event!  Throughout the next four days, each class will have an opportunity to visit the Auditorium and choose one or more books to take home to keep.  These children’s books belong to the school and are ready to be donated to our young readers.  Thank you to Mrs. Broas for organizing this event.  Please let this be a start to a summer filled with daily reading at home.  This will make such a difference for your child at the start of the new school year!

This past week, you received a survey email asking if you might want your child to participate in a short Summer Academic Boost session in August at PVES. There is no cost to attend, and bus transportation can be provided. If you haven’t done so already, please complete this survey so that we can begin to get an idea of how many students will participate. The dates for these Summer Boost weeks are:

August 9-12:  Students Exiting Grades 2, 3 & 4  (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
August 16-19:  Students Exiting Grades K & 1  (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)

This Thursday, June 17th, is our PVES Field Day! Our remote students will have activities posted on their Physical Education Google Classroom so that participation can take place at home.  Our Field Day hours will be in the morning, and then we will continue with our school day.  Please be sure to have your child wear his/her Field Day t-shirt or Grade Level color for that day.  Children may come home a little extra “messy” on Thursday afternoon, but that is just a sign of good, clean fun. We look forward to enjoying it with them!

Our students continue to practice lockdown drills and fire drills in our building, according to state regulations. We are so proud of how our students handle themselves during these brief practice drills, and we make a point to reassure them that we do this to just be extra safe.  Thank you to our amazing teachers who do such a wonderful job with our safety practices.

Please be reminded that next Thursday, June 24th, is a half-day of school, and the last day of school, for our elementary students.  Dismissal will take place at 12:00 PM.  There will be no school for our elementary children on Friday, June 25th.

Congratulations to our faculty and staff who will be retiring at the end this year! Best wishes to Mrs. Teresa Hebeisen, Mrs. Leesa Hernandez, Mrs. Sharon Redmond, and Mrs. Diana Morgan. Thank you for all you have done for the students of Putnam Valley!

Enjoy the week ahead!  It is sure to be a busy one, and we thank you for your support!

Warmly,
Dr. Podesta
Principal
