Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

The month of February is off to a cold but busy start, and the third quarter of the school year is sure to be a great one. I am happy to report that all our students are back in school full-time, and our student attendance numbers have been strong. Let’s work to stay healthy throughout the remainder of the winter months. It is truly wonderful to have everyone in school!

February is Black History Month. Our teachers will be incorporating important lessons into ELA and Social Studies classes to celebrate this important month. Our school will also celebrate Valentine’s Day (wear red, pink, or white) on February 14th, and the calendar date of 2/22/22 on Friday, February 18th (wear tutu’s, tie dye, or top hats)! Our younger classes will also soon be celebrating our 100th Day of School this year, with more information coming soon from your child’s classroom teacher.

Please be reminded that this Friday, February 11th is our PVES Sports Jersey Day! In honor of the Super Bowl, all staff and students are invited to wear a favorite sports shirt or jersey, either from a local or school team, a local gym or studio, or a professional sports team! We look forward to this special day, celebrating the love of sports, good sportsmanship, and teamwork!

The Winter Olympics is now in full swing, and this world event provides a wonderful opportunity to teach children more about sports, hard work and competition, culture, and geography. Please take the time to enjoy some of these sporting events on television with your children.  There is always so much to discuss and share.

This week we recognize School Counselors Week. Thank you to Mrs. Kilduff and our entire clinical team for all the support and guidance they provide our students. We have a strong and caring team at PVES!

Schools will be closed for winter break from Monday, February 21st through Friday, February 25th.  Schools will reopen on Monday, February 28th.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please call or email your child’s teacher(s) directly. Mrs. Picco and I are also always here to support your children through these foundational years.

Have a great week ahead!

Fondly,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
