Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

We completed our first 5-day week of the school year, and our students are doing such a wonderful job! Thank you so much to all our parents and guardians who were able to attend our Back-to-School Nights this past week! It was wonderful to see you and share the work we are doing at PVES to provide your children with an amazing year of learning ahead. Thank you for your support and partnership! We couldn’t do it without you!

Please be sure to join the PTA and the PVEF! Both organizations are in need of volunteers to help with school activities and initiatives. We thank all of our parent volunteers who make such a difference in our school.

Our Character Education & Diversity Theme for this month is “Positive Thinking.” This past week, Mrs. Robey and I were able to hold our first Community Meetings during part of recess with each grade level. We reviewed the school safety rules, the importance of being kind, and the celebrated theme this month of thinking positively! All classrooms will be sharing a special read-aloud on this important theme, and our classes are earning their Tiger Paws for excellent behavior.

We held our first required fire drill this past week, and we will have more fire drills in the week ahead. We will also alert you when we are scheduling Lockdown Drills this year. Please know that we are calm and reassuring when practicing safety drills with our young students, and we take school safety very seriously. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

We will be holding our PVES Building Steering Committee Meetings again this year, and we will be reaching out for parent volunteers. Please check the link on our Elementary website to see the FAQ Document created by our Building Steering Committee. This live “Welcome” document contains a great deal of information about our school, curriculum, educational resources, and the PV community. We hope that you all find it helpful, with a great deal of information at your fingertips. The QR Code for this FAQ Document will be sent home in your child’s homework folder.

Book Exchange in our school library will be starting this week and next! We are so excited for our students to borrow books to read at home. Please have your child read every night, on top of completing homework with care. These practices build great habits for the future!

Our ES School Picture Day will be held on Monday, September 30th. Please be sure to reach out to the PTA if you can help on this day. Schools will be closed on Thursday, October 3rd and Friday, October 4th for Rosh Hashanah. Schools will also be closed on Monday, October 14th in honor of Columbus Day.

Enjoy this gorgeous time of year and all the excitement a new school year brings. Have a great week ahead!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
