Dear PVES Families,
Great news! Our PTA/PVES Picnic has been rescheduled for this Thursday, October 8th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM! The weather looks perfect, and we hope to see the Bubble Bus! Please pack your dinner, a picnic blanket or chairs, and bring your children to come enjoy the beautiful new playground. You are welcome to bring a dessert for the sharing table. This is not a drop-off event, so please be sure to supervise your children during the picnic. We look forward to seeing you!
This Friday, October 9th, all schools will dismiss 15 minutes early, due to a mandated Early Dismissal Drill. Please be at your bus stops 15 minutes earlier than usual on Friday afternoon. There will be no school on Monday, October 12th, in honor of Columbus Day.
All staff and students are welcome to wear the color orange on Wednesday, October 21st. On this Unity Day, we support the work of our Character Education teaching, with a focus on Bully Prevention. Our themes promote kindness and respect. This month, all classes are sharing a class book focused on Friendship and treating others with respect and care. Please see the attached flyer in the Weekly Notices link.
All PVES Clubs will be advertised throughout the year through this Weekly Word newsletter. Please always be sure to review the Weekly Notices for upcoming events, club sign-ups, and PTA events. Our third and fourth graders can already see the opportunity to participate in our Gym Show and in this year’s PVES Musical. Thank you for checking these flyers weekly!
This week, our students and staff will practice a mandated Lockdown Drill and several more Fire Drills. These important drills help to keep us safe, and the students are led through these drills with great care and reassurance. Local police will visit our school to assist and supervise the Lockdown Drill. We will let the children know to expect this.
Our First Responder Day is taking place on the morning of Wednesday, October 28th. If you or any friends or relatives are First Responders and would like to visit one of our classrooms to talk about your work or share a story, we would love to have you! Please email me at mpodesta@pvcsd.org to sign up for this event, which will take place from about 9:00 to 10:00 AM. We thank you so much for the work you do, and we would be honored to welcome you.
We would like to thank our PVES PTA for the amazing Class Parent Tea they organized for our new Class Parents and classroom teachers. This elegant and delicious event was a perfect welcome for our many parent volunteers, and we thank our PTA Board for making it so special. Thank you to all our class parents who are so giving of their time and energy. It’s going to be a great year ahead for our students!
We are already at the midpoint of the first quarter of the school year. In the coming weeks, you will be receiving invitations to our Parent/Teacher Conferences in November. These in-person conferences take place after the first quarter of the school year, and they are accompanied by brief Progress Reports and the sharing of school work, with goals being set for the months ahead. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning progress, please reach out to your child’s teacher(s) directly.
Our Halloween Parade on October 30th will be recorded for families to view at home. Please remember that students may bring (not wear) their costumes to school, and no masks or scary props or costume weapons may be brought to school. Classroom celebrations may be organized by teachers and class parents, and we will make special note of classes with certain food allergies. Thank you so much for your attention to these details.
Enjoy the beautiful fall week ahead. We look forward to seeing you at the PVES/PTA Picnic on Thursday!
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
