Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Thank you so much to our Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department for visiting our school last week and meeting with all our grade levels for fire safety lessons. The children were able to learn about fire safety and prevention, and they even got to climb onto the visiting fire trucks. We are so appreciative of these skilled volunteers, and we thank the PVVFD for the gifts provided for all our elementary students!

Our elementary school will have another fire drill this week, and we will also hold our first lockdown drill in the week ahead. It is important that our students and staff practice these mandated drills, and we present them to the students in a calm and reassuring way. Our Building Emergency Response Team will also be meeting with our safety consultant from Altaris this week. We appreciate your support, and please let us know if you have any questions.

All First Responders are welcome to visit PVES for our annual First Responder Visit on Friday, October 25th, from 9:10 to 9:50. If you are interested and available, please email me at mpodesta@pvcsd.org. We thank you so much for the important work that you do!

Your child’s teachers will be reaching out to you to schedule your in-person appointment for your fall parent/teacher conference in November. Please make every effort to schedule this conference time, as we plan to meet with 100% of our students’ parents at the end of the first quarter of the school year. Brief Progress Reports will also be shared at these November conferences. Report Cards will be available at the mid-year point.

All elementary students are welcome to participate in our school-wide Halloween Parade on Thursday, October 31st. This parade is for students only, but the parade will be recorded so that families can watch from home. Participation is not mandatory. Children will bring their costumes to school and change into them before the parade time. We ask that students do not wear scary masks or carry prop weapons of any sort. Thank you so much!

October is already moving quickly, and the colder temperatures are on the way. Please remember that our students go outside for about 25 minutes almost every day, so they should be dressed appropriately for the weather. Thank you for labeling the inside of all clothing items (hats, mittens, jackets, sweatshirts, etc.). This helps to keep our Lost & Found Collection from getting too big!

Enjoy the week ahead and the beautiful foliage that is beginning to appear! We appreciate all that you do, each and every day.

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
