Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you are all enjoying the long weekend, as we honor the significance of Memorial Day and all that it means to our country. We are approaching the final month of the school year, and we are so thankful for your support and partnership.

Thank you to our many Community Readers, including many school retirees, who visited our classrooms to read to our students. It was wonderful to have so many guest readers in the building. Thank you to the PTA for providing breakfast treats for all, and thank you to Mrs. Dawn Vaccaro who designed yet another beautiful book poster for this event. We appreciate the community spirit. It was a great day!

Congratulations to our fourth-grade students who did such an outstanding job performing at the 4th Grade Spring Concert this past week! The bands and the chorus sounded terrific! Thank you again to Mrs. Calhoun and to Mrs. Bennett for your wonderful work with these students!

It will soon be PVES Spirit Week, which take place from Monday, June 10th through Friday, June 14th. Please note our Theme Days for this special week:

Monday, June 10th:  Crazy Hat & Hair Day

Tuesday, June 11th: Blue and White (Extra) Day

Wednesday, June 12th: Silly Socks and Style Day

Thursday, June 13th: Red, White & Blue Day

Friday, June 14th: Field Day shirts (Grade Level Colors)

Thank you to the many parents who brought their children to vote in our PVES Kids’ Vote on Tuesday. The Ice Pops won the majority of the votes for Field Day, but the true learning took place through the classroom Civic Engagement lessons and the voting experience itself. And thank you to our community for your support with the district budget vote. Our students are thriving.

We are looking forward to our Sustainability Fair during the week of June 3rd through June 7th. Each grade level will have one day for these outdoor rotations. Please see the attached flyer, along with other important notices.

Please be reminded that there will be no school on Wednesday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth. Our elementary students will have half-days (12:00 dismissals) on Tuesday, June 25th and June 26th , the last day of the school year.  Our Fourth-Grade Moving Up Ceremony will be held on June 24th, with all attendees needing a ticket to enter. (There will be a limit of three tickets per family due to space regulations). Ticket information will be sent to fourth-grade families soon.

Enjoy the unofficial start to the summer season, and especially that outdoor time with your young children. They just love spending time with you.

Have a great week ahead! We will see our students on Wednesday!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
