Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

I hope you are enjoying the long weekend as we pay tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. School will reopen tomorrow for the final stretch of the school year. Please note that all schools will be closed on Friday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth.

Thank you for your support of our school district initiatives with your participation in the many events of last week. From the successful district budget vote, the wonderful concerts by grades 1 and 2, field trips, the planting party, colonial day, and continued student learning, we had a very full week, and we are grateful. Our classes also enjoyed special guest readers during our annual Community Read, and we thank Mrs. Dawn Vaccaro for creating another beautiful book poster in celebration of this special event. Thank you also to the PTA for providing breakfast treats for our guest readers. We had a wonderful morning!

We will be conducting our final required evacuation (fire) drills over the next two weeks. Our students do a wonderful job participating in these brief drills. Our Building Emergency Response Team has met regularly with our safety consultant company throughout the school year to provide guidance and information regarding all of our safety practices.

As we approach the final month of the school year, please be sure to have your children check the Lost & Found collection in our front lobby. All remaining items will be donated to charity at the end of June. In the meantime, if you have any PV gear (t-shirts, field day shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts) that you no longer need, please be sure to donate them back for others to enjoy. The collection box is located in our main lobby. Thank you!

Congratulations to our 1st and 2nd grade classes who performed their amazing Choral Concerts for their families last week. Thank you so much to Mr. Durland for his wonderful work with our students. The children made us very proud, and the concerts were truly enjoyed by all! We look forward to our 4th Grade Spring Concert on Thursday, June 4th, at 7:00 PM. This is sure to be another wonderful show! Our Kindergarten classes will perform for their families on Friday, June 12th at 2:00 PM, and the 3rd grade classes will hold their Haiku Celebration on Tuesday, June 9th, at 1:30 PM.

As we look ahead to June, our Elementary School will be celebrating Flag Day on Friday, June 12th. All staff and students are welcome to wear red, white, and blue colors on that day. We will enjoy an early-morning flag ceremony on that day. Our PVES Spirit Week will take place from June 15th through June 18th, with our Field Day being held on Thursday, June 18th. Our dress themes for each of these four days will be shared in an email this week.

The top contenders for Mason’s middle name will be voted on by all students in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to share the results!

We look forward to a wonderful week ahead. Tomorrow is Tuesday already! Thank you for all you do!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
