Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy Mother’s Day to all our amazing PVES mothers, grandmothers, guardians, and loving caregivers! May the sun shine brightly on this day, and may you always know that all you do, most of it going unnoticed, matters so very much! We appreciate your partnership, and we wish you a peaceful, love-filled day!

Our elementary school will now have a half-day of school on Thursday, May 22nd. Putnam Valley Elementary School (only) will dismiss at 12:00 on 5/22. All PVCSD schools will now be closed on Friday, May 23rd. (This is the first “give back holiday” as noted on the school calendar). Schools will also be closed on Monday, May 26th in honor of Memorial Day. Please note that schools will be closed on Thursday, June 19th for Juneteenth.

We are so proud of our third and fourth grade students who worked so hard on their NYS ELA and Math exams over the past couple of weeks. Thanks to our skilled K-4 faculty and our rich, current curriculum materials, our PVES students are always so prepared for these tests, and they are engaged in developing knowledge and confidence as they prepare for their future learning. We will continue to learn and grow through the months of May and June, with many wonderful activities planned for our students.

On Monday morning, we look forward to a very special dance assembly presented by the New York Chinese Cultural Center for our students in Grades 1 through 4. This will be a wonderful cultural event, and we thank our PTA Arts in Education committee for making this possible. We also want to thank our amazing PTA volunteers who put so much effort and creative thinking into our Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week this past week. Our staff was treated to many delicious and caring treats, and we enjoyed each and every day.

Our Earth Helpers Club is working hard to collect plastic bags to help build a bench at the PV Library out of recycled materials. Please continue to have your children bring in clean, stretchy plastic (Amazon bags and grocery bags, etc.) that can be added to this collection. Thank you!

Have a wonderful week ahead! Happy Mother’s Day to all. Your children are so very lucky.

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
