Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

We have all had a great start back to school after winter break, and our students continue to come to school prepared and ready to learn. Thank you! As we welcome in the month of March, we look forward to many school events and lots of academic growth. We will all be turning our clocks forward next weekend, and the extra hour of sunlight will be a welcome change, with additional time for the children to play outside after school. Spring is in the air!

Please remember that the Putnam Valley Education Foundation will hold its Casino Night Fundraiser on Saturday, March 23rd, at 7:00 PM, at the Putnam County Golf Club. Please see the flyer for additional details. Thank you for supporting the PVEF and all they do for our school district! Thank you also to our amazing PTA for the many events they are hosting at this time of year!

Many of our fourth-graders will be taking part in our PVES Science Fair this Wednesday! The Science Fair will take place in the ES Auditorium from 6:30 to 7:10 PM. Thank you to Mrs. Bruno and Mrs. Broas for their wonderful work with our young scientists. This is always a wonderful academic event, and we can’t wait to share in all the learning!

All staff and students are welcome to wear the color “green” on Friday, March 15th, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day! We look forward to welcoming a group of young Irish Step Dancers to our school for a special assembly that day. It is sure to be a lucky day filled with leprechaun fun!

Many of our grade levels have begun to schedule field trips again, and this is great news. (We missed these events during the pandemic). If you have questions regarding field trip details, cash payments (when needed), or health concerns, please always call the school for more information or assistance. Sometimes, parent chaperones are asked to join the trip, and we thank you for your time. No additional parents should be attending these trips or meeting the class at the trip location. This creates confusion and upset, and we thank you for your understanding. Additionally, younger siblings may not attend the trip with chaperones. This, of course, is a safety detail, and we intend for these trips to be instructional and student-centered. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Please review your children’s school-day breakfast and lunch plans with them. We are finding that some students may be purchasing school breakfast or extra snacks without their parents’ consent. We just want to confirm that we are all on the same page with these plans. At school, we can make sure that we support the food plan you have for your child. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions or concerns.

Please remember that school will be closed for our PV students on Wednesday, March 13th, for Superintendent’s Conference Day. Schools will be closed for spring break from Friday, March 29th, through Friday, April 5th. Schools will reopen on Monday, April 8th.

Have a wonderful week ahead! Thank you for your partnership!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
