Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you have been enjoying the beginning of our daylight savings time, and a little bit of extra time with your children with this past three-day weekend.  Our PV staff had a very productive Superintendent’s Conference Day, on Friday, with engaging speakers, team planning time, and a beautiful whole-district tribute to Dr. Fran Wills, our Superintendent who will be retiring in June.  It was a very special K-12 moment to thank Dr. Wills for all that she has done for the Putnam Valley Central School District.  She will certainly be missed!

Congratulations to our fourth-grade scientists who participated in the Science/Maker Fair last Wednesday.  The students were so prepared with their studies and experiments, and they did an outstanding job presenting their learning to elementary students during the day and to visiting parents at night.  Thank you to Mrs. Broas and Ms. Mistretta for helping with this exciting academic event, and thank you to Mr. Jason Horr for helping to set up the student-to-student collaboration with our PVHS Science Honor Society students.  Thank you also to all of the parents who supported the children with this science learning.  That means so much!

We look forward to seeing many of you at the PVES Musical, “The Wizard of Oz,” on this Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd, at 7 PM in the elementary auditorium.  Tickets are on sale now!  (Please be sure to check the Weekly Notices for many upcoming events and activities).  We look forward to a wonderful performance!

As you know, our Character Education and Diversity Committee is running the “Support the Troops” drive.  Collection boxes are located in our main lobby for each grade level.  Thank you for your donations, as these supplies make such a difference to those serving our country.  Thank you to our Character Ed Committee for all that they do to teach about being Kind, Safe, Respectful, and Responsible citizens.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Elizabeth Fedele, on the birth of her son, Ethan Henry Fedele!  Ethan was born on Wednesday, March 13th, weighing in at 6 lb. 13 oz.  Best wishes to the whole Fedele family!

As you look ahead on the calendar, please notice that our elementary students will have a half-day of school on Friday, April 12th, due to parent/teacher conferences taking place that afternoon.  Teachers will invite some parents for conferences on that day.  If you do not receive in invitation, you can always request a conference and it will be scheduled.  Spring Break will take place from Monday, April 15th through Monday, April 22nd.  Schools will reopen on Tuesday, April 23rd.  It’s amazing how quickly the spring months fly by.

Have a wonderful week ahead!  The children will be enjoying regular outdoor recess with these warmer temperatures.  This is a busy and exciting time of year!

Fondly,
Ms. Podesta
