Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

We have made it through another snowy week at PVES, but the school days have been busy and productive! Congratulations to our amazing cast of the PVES Musical, “The Knight at Dawn,” based on the Magic Tree House books. The students have been working so hard with Mrs. Calhoun and Mrs. Phillips, and they performed a wonderful dress rehearsal yesterday for our staff members. We are all looking forward to the musical productions that will be performed tonight and tomorrow night at 7 PM in our Auditorium. Tickets are on sale for $5 each. We hope to see you at the show!

Our Character Ed Committee is organizing a wonderful school-wide collection for our Support the Troops initiative. Each grade level has been asked to bring in certain items to add to the PVES donation to our troops. The children will present this school collection at an upcoming Support the Troops Assembly in our school. Thank you so much for your generosity, and for setting such a terrific example of caring for your children.

Congratulations to all of the Fourth Grade Scientists who participated in the Science/Maker Fair this week! The students’ projects were absolutely amazing, and they presented their studies with such confidence and knowledge. Thank you to our PVHS Science Honor students, led by Mr. Jason Horr, for assisting these fourth graders with their research planning, and for attending the Fair to learn more about the projects. Thank you also to Ms. Mistretta and Mrs. Broas for helping with the organization of this wonderful academic event!

Our Kindergarten classes have been very busy celebrating Dr. Seuss this week, with colorful outfits being worn every day to help bring the learning to life! Today, PVES was filled with the color green, as the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day came one day early! We love to add extra fun and joy to our learning throughout the year! March is Women’s History Month, and teachers are integrating this important study into many areas of the curriculum.

Please note that our schools will now be open on April 3, 4, 5, and 6. Spring break will begin on March 29th. The elementary school will have a half-day of school on Friday, April 20th, to allow for invite-only parent conferences. Of course, if you would ever like to speak with any of your child’s teachers, you can reach out by phone or email to set up a meeting. Progress Reports will be sent home on April 20th, so that you can see a brief update on your child’s progress for this point in the year.

Please check the Weekly Notices for new club information and other exciting events. Enjoy the weekend ahead. Despite the forecast, spring is only 4 days away!

Fondly,

Ms. Podesta
