Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you are all enjoying the weekend, and that you are prepared for some upcoming winter weather this week. We will now have an extra hour of afternoon sunlight, but possibly with some snow to come along with it. Thank you for being prepared for any early dismissals, school delays, or school cancellations due to weather. Spring is almost here!

Congratulations to our fourth-grade scientists who did such an amazing job at the PVES Science/Maker Fair this past week. The student projects and investigations were so interesting, and they were presented with great confidence and knowledge. Thank you to Mrs. Bruno and Mrs. Broas who put so much effort into this event, and thank you to our PVHS Science Honor students who volunteered to assist our fourth graders. We also thank the parents, administrators, and Board of Education members who attended the evening Science/Maker Fair. It was a great night!

This past Friday, our faculty took part in a busy and productive Superintendent’s Conference Day. Our elementary teachers spent much of the day studying and collaborating to dive even more deeply into our new Scholastic Literacy Program. At this point of the year, our students are making great strides in the area of English Language Arts, and we are amazed at their progress and their love of reading. Please continue to read with your children each day, and be sure to discuss the story structure and text details with them. It is also important to play rhyming and spelling games, play word puzzles, and visit the library and local bookstores to promote the love of literacy. Our springtime Book Fair is coming! Our students are visiting our school library every two weeks, and those borrowed books can be shared at home as well. Thank you for your support. We are making great readers!

All staff and students are invited to wear the color “green” on Friday for St. Patrick’s Day. I hope you all have a lucky day!

Enjoy the week ahead. Thank you for your support and partnership!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
