Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Welcome to the final 5 full-day week of the school year! The month of June is moving quickly, and we have lots of wonderful activities planned for our elementary students. Next week, schools will be closed on Thursday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth. Our students will have an early (12:00) dismissal on both Thursday, June 26th, and Friday, June 27th. Let’s make the most of these final days of the school year.

Our elementary school will hold its final mandated Safety Lockdown this week. As always, this police-supervised drill will be conducted in a reassuring, safe way for our young students. PVES will then have completed all required safety drills for the school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

This past week, each grade level visited the Sustainability Fair, including grade level stations facilitated by Mrs. Bruno and Mrs. Broas. The children worked on hands-on activities that focused on protecting our planet. Thank you to Mrs. Bruno and Mrs. Broas for these excellent and important learning opportunities for our K-4 students.

We all enjoyed the wonderful Storytelling Assemblies presented by Mr. Jonathan Kruk last week. Thank you to our PTA for making these assemblies possible. This week, we look forward to a school-wide concert presented by Mr. Tom Chapin. I want to thank Mr. Mark Weiss for making this concert possible. It is sure to be a wonderful experience!

Our Kindergarten families are all invited to the Kindergarten Show this Friday, June 13th, at 1:30. School-aged siblings will be learning in their classes at this time, so they will not be attending the 1:30 show. Thank you to our Kindergarten team for working so hard with these young performers. I am sure the Auditorium will be filled with smiles!

Our fourth-grade families are receiving Ticket Information for the 4th Grade Moving Up Ceremony, to be held on Wednesday, June 25th. Each student will get 3 audience tickets, and everyone attending must have a ticket to enter the Gym. (If any families have extra tickets to donate, they should contact Mrs. DeRubeis in our office). Our fourth graders can be signed out of school by parents after the ceremony and reception.

We are all looking forward to PVES Spirit Week next week. Each day during the week of June 16th through June 20th, our staff and students will enjoy the daily themes that add to the fun and “spirit” of the week. The plans for Spirit Week include: Monday (Crazy Hat & Hair Day); Tuesday (Silly Sock Day); Wednesday (Neon Color Day); Thursday (NO SCHOOL/Juneteenth); Friday (Grade Level T-Shirt Day/Field Day). We always look forward to this fun-filled week, and our Ice Cream Sandwich treats will be ready for Field Day on Friday, June 20th!

It will soon be time to say good-bye to some very special people in our district office who will be retiring after many years of service to the Putnam Valley Central School District. Congratulations to Dr. Natalie Doherty, Mrs. Maureen Bellino, and to Mrs. Maureen Pedersen on their upcoming retirements. We thank you, and we wish you much health and happiness in the years ahead!

Have a wonderful week ahead! Enjoy these very special days.

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
