Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

June is now in full swing at PVES, and we all enjoyed our school-wide Field Day! The students were dressed in their grade-level colors on Friday, and they all participated in a full morning of physical activity, friendly competition, and lots of team building fun. Thank you to Mrs. Aurigemma, Mr. Singer, and all our faculty and staff for making this day so successful. And a big thank you to our amazing PTA for surprising our students with a generous Ice Cream Truck in the afternoon. What a treat!

Our classrooms are filled with activity and special events at this time of the year. Thank you for checking your school emails, classroom newsletters, and our school calendar carefully. We always appreciate your participation and involvement in these special parent classroom events.

Our Spirit Week will take place next week, June 12th through June 16th. The themes for next week will be:

Monday, June 12th: Crazy Hat & Hair Day
Tuesday, June 13th: Crazy Socks or Neon Color Day
Wednesday, June 14th: Flag Day – Red, White, and Blue
Thursday, June 15th: Let’s wear those Field Day t-shirts/colors AGAIN!
Friday, June 16th: “Extra” PV Pride Day: Blue & White

We are so excited to be holding our Annual PVES Sustainability Fair during the week of June 12th!  Each grade level will visit the Fair on a different day during which time they will participate in 3-4 stations and then end with a grade level Community Lunch.  Stations will take place outside on our beautiful PVES school grounds, so students should dress accordingly.  As part of sustaining our community, we will be collecting food for our local food pantry.  A collection box will be outside the main office.  We appreciate your support in helping to teach our students the importance of sustaining our environment, our community, and ourselves. Please find more details for each grade level in the attached letter and the special school lunch order form.

As you know, our students will now have two half-days at the end of the school year. Thursday, June 22nd, and Friday, June 23rd, are now half-days for students, with 12:00 dismissal times. No lunch will be served on these days. Schools will be closed on Monday, June 19th, for the Juneteenth holiday.

Our June Report Cards will be available online and mailed via U.S. mail at the end of the school year. As always, if you have questions about your child’s academic or social progress, please reach out to your child’s teacher(s) at any time. And, as you look ahead to your summer plans, be sure to build in time for daily reading and math review with your child. Summer Work Packets will be sent home for each grade level, and our Summer Boost Academy will take place during the mornings of August 14-17. This Summer Boost is open to all students currently in grades K-4. More registration information will be coming soon.

Please consider volunteering and belonging to the PTA and PVEF organizations. They do so very much for our school, and the parent volunteers are the key! Thank you so much for giving any time that you have!

Library books should be returned by this Friday, June 9th. Thank you for helping your child locate any books that may be tucked away at home or in the family car. Our library has certainly been a busy place this year!

As we approach the end of this year, I would like to let you know that our wonderful Assistant Principal, Mrs. Jen Picco, will be leaving PVES at the end of July. Mrs. Picco has decided to return to the classroom as an elementary teacher. Our candidate search and interview process for our new Assistant Principal is well underway, and we will be in good hands. However, I would like to thank Jen Picco for the outstanding work she has done at PVES over the past two years. She is truly an incredible educator, leader, and friend, and we wish her the best always. Mrs. Picco will be missed!

Enjoy the week ahead and the wonderful spring temperatures. This month will be a quick one!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
