Dear PVES Families,
Welcome to PVES Spirit Week! Our students and staff have been so busy with all of the events and celebrations this month, and now we are heading into a 4-day week of school spirit and fun. Please note that there is no school on Thursday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth.
To start off the week, tomorrow (Monday) is Crazy Hat & Hair Day! Tuesday is Silly Sock Day, and Wednesday is Neon Color Day! (No school on Thursday). Friday will be our PVES Field Day, and all students should wear their grade-level t-shirts or grade-level colors. Our physical education teachers have planned the outdoor athletic activities for the morning, along with a few surprises for the students. We will also enjoy ice cream sandwiches provided by our PTA, as voted on by our elementary students!
This past week, our elementary students enjoyed an amazing concert by Mr. Tom Chapin. It was such a privilege to have this talented, professional singer at our school. The children sang along to Mr. Chapin’s meaningful songs, and the room was filled with joy. What a treat for all! Thank you again to Mr. Mark Weiss for making this event possible.
We have also been enjoying some very special end-of-the-year activities in our school. The Kindergarten Show was spectacular, and the Haiku Celebration by Grade 3 was outstanding. Our fourth-grade classes presented their Colonial Day projects in full costume and then took an active role in living history lessons during the Revolutionary War Reenactment. Our entire school community, dress in red, white, and blue, participated in a beautiful Flag Day Ceremony on Friday, with beautiful music and pride. There have also been many in-class and outdoor learning workshops and classroom writing celebrations at all grade levels, and we thank our elementary parents for your attendance and support!
Thank you to Mrs. Kerri Burdett and several of her first-grade students who presented their amazing writing pieces to the Board of Education this past week. Mrs. Burdett, who will be a Reading Intervention (AIS) teacher next year, is leading the way with the use of our Writing Revolution techniques in our K-4 classes. Our first-grade writers made us so proud, and we look forward to our continued curriculum work in this very important part of our ELA curriculum.
Ticket information has been shared with all Fourth-Grade families for the Moving Up Ceremony next week. If you have any questions, please call our main office. Everyone attending the Ceremony must have a ticket.
Happy Father’s Day to all our PVES dads! I hope that you are enjoying a wonderful day doing what you love to do! Thank you for being the role models and guiding lights that you are.
Enjoy this 4-day week ahead. It is sure to be a spirited one!
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
