Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy July! I am writing to thank you all for your tremendous support throughout a very successful school year! I am so very proud of our elementary students who continued to grow and thrive throughout the entire year. I wish everyone a happy and safe summer, with lots of family time. May you all make wonderful memories together. The years go by so quickly.

Congratulations to our fourth graders who participated in their lovely Moving Up Ceremony last week. Recently, our 4th Grade classes were able to celebrate with a Yearbook Breakfast, their special t-shirts, and our first-ever Moving Up Reception in our beautiful school courtyard! (Thank you, PTA!) We also cheered for this class, as a school, as they walked to the elementary buses for the final time on June 26th. We wish these students much success in the middle school. They are ready for 5th Grade!

The summer months will be busy at PVES! While hallways are painted and classrooms and floors are deep cleaned, our office is preparing for the year ahead. We also look forward to our Summer Boost program, which will run in the mornings from August 12th through August 14th. All students are encouraged to work on their Summer Review Packets that were distributed to each grade level, and please take part in our Summer Reading Challenge! Our Tuesday Summer Reading Challenge check-ins will begin on Tuesday, July 9th, from 8 AM to 2:45 PM. We have new prizes ready for this year, thanks to our many sponsors. Happy reading!

Please be sure to check out the reading activities and events being hosted by our local PV Library in town as well! It is so important that our students read daily throughout the summer. Thank you for your support!

September will be here before you know it! You will be sent information in mid to late August regarding your child’s teacher(s) for the upcoming year. We will also send you a complete Welcome Packet, including bus information and classroom specifics. In September, we will welcome our new general music teacher, Mr. Ben Durland, to PVES. We have lots to look forward to in the year ahead!

In the meantime, enjoy these summer days. Remember that it is the small moments that children remember most. Enjoy those small moments together!

Wishing you all a wonderful summer break.

Fondly,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
