Dear PVES Families,
We hope you are enjoying a warm and cozy Super Bowl Sunday! The Olympic games have begun, and this is a great opportunity to discuss countries, cultures, and country locations on world maps with your children. We all enjoyed our PVES Sports Jersey Day on Friday, and this week we look forward to our Kindness Friendship Day on Friday, February 13th. All staff and students are invited to wear the colors red, pink, and white.
February is Black History Month. Our teachers are sharing books and lessons with the students that are integrated into the grade level English Language Arts and Social Studies curriculums. We also have a collection of books that connect with this theme highlighted in our very busy elementary school library.
Mid-year Report Cards became available on PowerSchool on Friday, February 6th after 4 PM. In order to view your child’s Report Card, just log onto PowerSchool. In order to see teacher comments on the Report Card, just click on the speech bubble near the grades. Hard copies of these Report Cards have also been mailed out to your home addresses. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher(s). We want to work together to continue to support your child’s academic progress.
One of our PVHS students is holding a Shoe Drive Project as she works toward her Girl Scout Gold Award. This drive is being held to help patients who suffer from eating disorders. If you would like to donate new or gently used shoes of any size, your child can drop the shoes off in the collection boxes in the main lobby. Please do not donate ice skates, roller blades, or shoes with holes. Thank you so much for your donations!
Schools will be closed from Monday, February 16th, through Friday, February 20th, for winter break. We hope you enjoy this time with your families and friends. Schools will reopen on Monday, February 23rd.
We are happy to say that we have had a healthy stretch of time in our building, with strong attendance at all grade levels. Please continue to stress the importance of regular school attendance and punctuality with your children. This has a direct connection to school success and motivation, and it builds a strong foundation for future learning years. Thank you!
Thank you to our PTA who is hosting wonderful grade level events for our students throughout the year. Thank you also to the PVEF who is hosting the Young Artists’ Night, sponsored by the Tompkins Corners Cultural Center, on February 28th, at 6:30 PM. Please see the Weekly Notices for more information.
Have a wonderful (warmer) week ahead, and enjoy the big game!
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
