Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES,

After a long and emotional week in Putnam Valley, I want you to know that our students are walking into school ready to learn every day, with many engaging activities taking place in all classrooms.  We have been so saddened by the passing of both a precious PVHS senior, Elias Knapp, and a retired, most beloved PVES teacher, Mrs. Sue Berger.  Together, as a school district and a community, we care for each other during these most difficult times.  Thank you all for your support.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten classes who participated in Alphabet Parade in our school today!  Our youngest learners celebrated their wonderful learning of letters and sounds, both with song and art creations!  Thank you to our Kindergarten team for supporting these amazing children with their love for literacy.  The parade was absolutely adorable, and it brought smiles to the faces of many students and staff!

Thank you also to our fourth-grade classes who participated in an authentic and informative Colonial Day today!  Our students, dressed in full colonial attire, presented their well-researched reports to both students and family visitors.  It is wonderful to see history come to life with our students, and the research, writing, and communication skills are to be celebrated! Thank you also to the parents who helped out with treats and costumes!

Our third grade classes were visited by the wonderful children’s author, Roni Schotter, this week!  Thank you to our PTA Arts in Education for making these enriching learning opportunities possible for our students.  Ms. Schotter encouraged the art of writing with our young learners, and she certainly has many books to share!

Looking ahead in February, please be reminded that schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, February 18th and 19th, for the Presidents’ Day Holiday.  Schools will reopen on Wednesday, February 20th.

Just another reminder that we are taking names of students who will be registering for Kindergarten at PVES for September.  These students must be 5 years of age by December 1, 2019.  Please call the office at 845-528-8092 to sign up for registration.

Please check the Weekly Notices for any new announcements that may pertain to your child!

Enjoy the weekend ahead, and Happy Valentine’s Day!  All students are invited to wear red on Thursday, February 14th!  It will be another day filled with sweetness all around!

Warmly,
Ms. Podesta
