Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I hope you and your families are all enjoying this mild winter weather and the many February festivities taking place. This past week, our students celebrated our 100th Day of School and Sports Jersey day too! This Tuesday, all staff and students are invited to wear red, pink, or white for Valentine’s Day! We are also wrapping up a strong week of learning before our Winter Break. Schools will be closed from Monday, February 20th, through Friday, February 24th. Schools will reopen on Monday, February 27th.

All K-4 parents have been invited via email to our upcoming Scholastic Literacy Night on this Thursday, February 16th, at 6:00 PM. School-aged children are welcome to attend, as babysitting will be available. We are also serving pizza to our attendees, and we look forward to a wonderful evening. As you know, PVES adopted a new Literacy Program this year, and we are eager to share the details of the components of this rich curriculum to parents. Presentations will be available in Spanish as well as English. If you would like to attend, we ask that you please RSVP via the email link that was sent out last week. Thank you so much for your participation!

Thank you to our Character Education & Diversity Committee for providing our teachers with resources and activities to support our learning at the elementary school. Our students have been learning with materials focused on Kindness, Respect, and Black History Month. Thank you to all of you who were able to donate new pajamas and books to our recent Pajama Drive for those in need. We thank you for modeling kindness and generosity.

Our classes are visiting the school library every two weeks, with Book Exchange now regularly scheduled for all classes, K-4. If you have any questions about the Library Book Exchange, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Thank you for continuing to read with your children every night, as this is such an integral part of a child’s learning foundation. Many of our classrooms recently celebrated World Read Aloud Day, and we look forward to acknowledging Read Across America Day on March 2nd. Thank you for promoting the love of reading (and talking about books) in your home. This makes such a difference!

Enjoy the warm week ahead and the upcoming school break. Our students have been working so hard, and we are extremely proud of their efforts!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
