Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy New Year! I hope that you have all enjoyed a happy and healthy holiday season, and that you are looking forward to a great start to 2024. We send our very best wishes to you and your families, and we are looking forward to a wonderful start to the new year at PVES!

Our elementary students and staff enjoyed an extremely festive Whole School Sing-Along last Friday, with the room filled with holiday colors, great singing, and special surprises. Thank you to Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Calhoun who helped to keep the music flowing. And a big thank you to Mrs. Boyle and to our PVES parent, Mr. Shawn Keeler, who provided special holiday surprises for our students. We love our child-centered traditions at PVES, and our staff is always ready to join in the fun!

Our K-2 families are invited to a Parent ELA Night on Wednesday, January 17th, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Elementary children are welcome to attend with their parents, and dessert treats will be available. Be sure to RSVP to this informative evening invite. An email was sent to all K-2 families for google sign-ups, and you can email me directly at mpodesta@pvcsd.org.

Our Kindergarten Registration process is beginning for next year! If you have a child who will be turning 5 years old by 12/1/24, please call the school office at 845-528-8092 to set up a registration appointment. Please share this information with friends and neighbors who have children this age. Our Kindergarten Screening days (with the children) will be held later in the spring. We can’t wait to meet our newest students.

Our Kids of Character Club is getting ready to begin! All 3rd and 4th grade students are welcome to sign up for this after-school club, which will be run by our third-grade teacher, Ms. Castellanos. Please see the attached information for the club application.

We look forward to returning to school on Tuesday, January 2nd. Schools will be closed on Monday, January 15th in honor of Martin Luther King Day. Our Winter Break will take place from February 19th through February 23rd.

Our fourth-grade students will be performing their Winter Concert on Thursday, January 25th, at 7:00 PM in the PVES Auditorium. We look forward to a wonderful show!

Enjoy the remaining days of this holiday season. Wishing you the very best in the year ahead! (I know you will be watching your children continue to shine throughout the year!)

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
