Dear PVES Families,
Tomorrow is World Series Monday at PVES! In honor of the World Series and the great world of sports, all students and staff are invited to wear baseball hats, baseball shirts, or any other sports apparel to school. As always, we look forward to a great “community theme day” in our elementary school.
This past Friday, we had the honor of welcoming thirty amazing First Responders to our school to visit with our students. These hard-working people gave their time and energy to speak with the children, share about their careers, and teach about safety. Thanks to our wonderful community support, our First Responder Day was spectacular! You may have heard from your children that we had readers and guests in every classroom, a police officer with a large motorcycle and full auditorium presentation, a visiting ambulance, and a very special police dog who was given lots of love and attention. To top it off, in the afternoon, the entire student body was able to sit together on the front hill of our school and watch a helicopter land right on our front lawn. This was amazing, and the children (and adults) were so excited! All classes were able to visit the helicopter up close on the yard, and great questions were answered by the helicopter pilot. Thank you to Dr. Luft who helped to make this possible for us, and thank you, of course to our First Responder community. It was an incredible day, topped off by perfect weather and clear, blue skies. We are so lucky at PVES, and we learned so much.
This Thursday, all students are welcome to bring their Halloween costumes to school in their backpacks. The students and staff will be able to participate in a whole-school parade that afternoon. (This is not mandatory). This parade is for students only, but we will post the livestream of this event on our website for families to see. No scary masks or weapon props please. Thank you, and Happy Halloween!
Please check the school calendar for November very carefully. There will be no school for students on Tuesday, November 5th. This is election day, but all staff will be participating in our full-day Superintendent’s Conference Day. Schools will be closed on Monday, November 11th for Veterans Day. All elementary students (only) will have a half day of school (12:00 dismissal) on both Tuesday, November 12th and Tuesday, November 26th for parent/teacher conference schedules. Schools will be closed for Thanksgiving from Wednesday, November 27th, through Friday, November 29th. It is sure to be a quick and busy month!
Our PTA/PVES Fall Book Fair will take place from Monday, November 18th, through Friday, November 22nd. Thank you to our PTA volunteers who make this event possible. All classes will follow a class visiting schedule, and we will let you know when the Book Fair will be open after school hours. No shopping is necessary, but you are all welcome to visit!
Our Picture Retake Day will take place on the morning of Thursday, November 21st at PVES. Children who were absent or those hoping for a retake will be able to get their photos taken on this day.
Enjoy the beautiful weather this week and all the fun in store. Get those sports hats/shirts ready for tomorrow!
Thank you,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
