Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

September is finally here, and we are so excited to be welcoming your children to school tomorrow, with a staggered start for our Kindergarten students. Please be aware that bus arrival and dismissal times will not be exact for the first couple of weeks of school. Thank you for your patience as our students and families settle into the new year. It is very important to note that all K-4 elementary students must be met by an adult at the afternoon bus stop each day. If an adult is not at the bus stop, the child will be driven back to the elementary school to be picked up by a family member. Please check your child’s bus times carefully, and thank you for your flexibility as we get the year started.

Breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year in the Putnam Valley Central School District. If you would like your child to receive a school breakfast each day, we ask that you let the office know. You can email Mrs. Tavares at ltavares@pvcsd.org. This way, we can keep an accurate count for our cafeteria staff. All students should know their lunch plans for each day (bringing or buying), as teachers take a class order each morning. Please send your child with a healthy snack each day, and be aware of any nut-free classrooms in the building due to allergies. Thank you so much for your attention to this important matter.

We are looking forward to welcoming all our parents of students in Grades 1-4 to our Back-to-School Nights next week! Parents of students in Grades 3 & 4 are invited to our school on Tuesday, September 10th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM for curriculum presentations. Parents of students in Grades 1 & 2 are invited from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 11th. Please make every effort to attend these nights, as a great deal of information will be shared about the school year.

We look forward to working closely with you this year! Thank you for all you are doing to set up your children for a strong and confident start, with lots of rest and a regular homework/reading schedule planned for school nights. Regular attendance and punctuality are keys to success for all students. This is a very exciting time of year, and we are so glad to be partnering with you!

If you have specific questions that I can help with, my email mpodesta@pvcsd.org. Our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Robey, is here to help as well. Mrs. Robey’s email is crobey@pvcsd.org.

Let’s get this year started! We will see you at the PVES/PTA Picnic on Thursday at 5:00 PM!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
