Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy Father’s Day to all our PVES dads! I hope that you have all enjoyed a happy and relaxing day with your loved ones. You are so important to your children!

PVES was truly a magical place last week. Thank you for your support during our very busy Spirit Week, which ended with a Field Day for the record books! Each day of this special week was centered on an exciting dress theme, and our students and staff participated with wonderful energy! Our Flag Day Celebration was held on Thursday, with our whole school community gathered around the flagpole in red, white, and blue. Field Day began with the National Anthem, followed by a Balloon Costume race involving about 18 of our wonderful staff members all decked out to surprise and entertain our elementary students! Thank you to Mrs. Aurigemma and Mr. Heitman for coordinating our Field Day events, which were followed by the (elected) Ice Pops provided by the PTA. Our students were again surprised in the afternoon by the arrival of the Bubble Bus for each grade level. (Our wonderful students deserved this extra treat)! We are so thankful to our PTA, our Board of Education, and of course, to our amazing faculty and staff who give so much to our students every day. What a week!

Our students in grades K through 3 also attended safety workshops provided to us by Wings Over Water. These indoor water safety lessons took place in our Auditorium, and they were wonderful. We thank Wings Over Water for visiting PVES this week. We can’t wait to have you back!

This past Tuesday, our PVHS graduating seniors walked the halls of our elementary school in their caps and gowns, escorted by our terrific Kindergarten class. This was a very special event, and we wish the Class of 2024 the very best in their future endeavors. We are so proud of their achievements!

There will be no school on this Wednesday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth. Our elementary students will have a half-day of school on Tuesday, June 25th, and on Wednesday, June 26th (12:00 dismissals). Report Cards will be available online by the end of next week. Hard copies of Report Cards will be mailed via U.S. mail as well.

Please remember to sign your child up for Summer Boost Camp if you are interested! This will be held on the mornings of August 12, 13, and 14, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. All students should read daily over the summer, and we encourage participation in our Summer Reading Challenge! Academic Review Packets will be distributed to all our elementary students for optional summer review. Thank you for your support with this!

Fourth Grade families will receive Ticket Information for the Moving Up Ceremony tomorrow via backpack mail. Each student will be given 3 tickets per family, and all guests must have a ticket to enter the ceremony, which will take place on June 24th at 10:00 AM. There will be a waiting list for extra tickets that become available.

I would like to send a very special thank-you and good-bye to Mrs. Tina Lei, who has taught Mandarin at our school throughout this past year. We look forward to providing our students with exposure to the language of Spanish in their classrooms next year, but we thank Ms. Tina for her outstanding work with our students. She has certainly become a beloved member of our PVES community!

Please be sure to return all library books and classroom reading books to school this week. Please also check our most recent Lost & Found collection in our main lobby. We are finishing up an outstanding year at PVES, and we thank you for your ongoing support and positive communication. Our PVES parents are the best!

Two days of school ahead! Stay cool!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
