June is here and it is our final month of the 2023-2024 school year. Many of our students have summer on their minds and warmer temperatures offer many the extended opportunity to be outside. Although we will be on summer vacation starting on June 27th, we are still engaged in vital learning opportunities and assessments through our last day of school. We will have no school on June 19th in recognition of Juneteenth and June 26th will be a half day for students as we will be dismissing at 11:00 AM on that day.
Thank you for partnering with us over the course of this school year. Our students have been engaged, thoughtful, resilient, and ever changing through their journey of middle school. It takes a village to raise a child and your support is more important now than ever before especially with all of the outside influences that impact our students.
As we finish up the school year, I want to take the time to commend those students and families that saw the opportunity to take NYS assessments in preparation for standardized assessments that our students will encounter in the near future. Our mathematics, reading, and science assessments present a framework that will only better prepare students for what is to come in high school and to show off their knowledge. Next year, we will be moving to computer based assessments (CBT) in all of our grade levels 5 – 8. We will continue to work through the remainder of the school year and over the summer to ensure our curriculum and programs continue to educate the whole child.
Grade level final exams and projects will be given soon. The 7th grade does not have a special testing schedule with modified class periods, but these are the specific dates for the finals that will be given:
– Spanish 7 and Mandarin 7/8: exam during regularly scheduled class periods across June 14th, 17th, and 20th.
– Math 7: exam during regularly scheduled class periods on June 17th
Social Studies 7, ELA 7, and Science 7 will have final projects and/or single unit assessments.
The 8th grade will have a special testing schedule for a few content areas within our school day with modified class periods. These are the specific dates for when the finals will be given:
- Science 8 Final: Friday June 14th periods 1-3
- Math 8 Final: Monday June 17th periods 1-3
- Spanish 8 Final: Thursday June 20th periods 1-3
The ELA 8 and Social Studies 8 finals/projects will be given during regular class periods in June.
