Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

We hope that you have all enjoyed a wonderful spring break! We look forward to seeing our amazing students on Monday for a full day of school. As you know from Dr. Luft’s email, we have been teaching our elementary students about the Solar Eclipse, and our PVES students will be provided with eclipse glasses. We will have extra supervision at our regular dismissal time. This will be a unique experience for all of us, and safety will be our primary concern. Please review safety measures at home with your child as well.

Thank you to our many PTA volunteers who helped to manage the Spring Book Fair at our school! The children loved visiting the fair, and we always want to thank the PTA for all they do for our students and teachers. (The Grade-Level evening events are a great hit this year!)

Our third and fourth-grade students are extremely well-prepared for their NYS ELA exams this week, which will take place on Thursday and Friday. Please be sure your children are well-rested and that they have a good breakfast to start each day! We are so proud of our students, and we thank all our teachers for their dedication, care, and constant commitment to student growth and achievement.

Our Third Grade Recorder Concerts will take place on the evening of Thursday, April 18th, at the designated class times. Third-grade families should carefully read the notice that was sent by Mrs. Calhoun regarding arrival times, proper dress, etc. We look forward to a great concert!

Please be sure to have your child check our Lost & Found Collection in our main lobby! We have many clothing items that have been found on the playground, on buses, and in the cafeteria. If you think you are missing items, feel free to stop in and check our growing collection. All items not retrieved will be donated to charity at the end of April.

I want to wish a very Happy Assistant Principal’s Week to our very own Mrs. Carly Robey. Mrs. Robey joined our PVES family just this year, and she has quickly become an integral part of our school community. I thank her for bringing her skills, insight, and great care for children to PVES each day!

We now look forward to just about 7 straight weeks of uninterrupted learning time, which are sure to be filled with lots of learning and many classroom and school-building activities. I know your spring calendars get busy, so thank you for keeping your children on regular homework and bedtime schedules. Our elementary students (only) will have a half-day dismissal on Thursday, May 23rd. There will be no school in honor of Memorial Day from Friday, May 24th through Tuesday, May 28th. Schools will reopen on Wednesday, May 29th. Please note that schools will also be closed on Wednesday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth.

Enjoy the week ahead. Thank you for your positive communication and partnership as we head into this very busy time. We look forward to supporting our students as they continue to thrive academically over the next few months!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
