Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you have had a great week, and that the month of February will be a healthy and productive one for all of you. Our third quarter of the school year is now underway, and mid-year Elementary Report Cards became available, as announced, on Friday, February 2nd, at 4:00 PM. You can view your child’s online Report Card by accessing your PowerSchool Parent Portal. Hard copies of Report Cards will also be mailed via U.S. mail this coming week. If you have questions about your child’s progress in any areas, please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher(s).

At this point in the school year, please review your children’s learning and behavior goals, homework and reading habits, and school attendance and punctuality with them. These strong, structured life habits help to lay an important foundation for your child’s learning, and they help to make school a positive, successful place to be.

We are asking that all toys from home, including Pokemon cards, toy slime, and small toys stay home for safe keeping. Often, these objects cause stress and upset in school and on the buses, especially during arrival and dismissal times and recess, and it is better if they are left at home. Our elementary students may not bring cell phones or Smart watches to school. We are fortunate to have many materials available for indoor recess and other activities during our school day, and so these items from home can stay home safely. Thank you so much for your support. As an additional safety reminder, our students are not to chew gum in school or on the bus. Thank you!

This Friday, February 9th, will be Sports Jersey Day at our school. Before the big Super Bowl, all staff and students are invited to wear sports jerseys (professional, school, local), or t-shirts and sweatshirts from local sports clubs, etc. We look forward to a great community theme day. On Wednesday, February 14th, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day (with a focus on kindness and friendship) by wearing pink, red, or white! All are welcome to participate!

Schools will be closed for winter break from February 19th through February 23rd. Schools will also be closed on Wednesday, March 13th for students, as this will be a Superintendent’s Conference Day for staff.

Have a great week ahead! It seems that the groundhog did not see his shadow on Friday. Spring will be here soon!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
