Dear PVMS Families,

It is hard to believe that it is March already!  The saying “In like a lion, out like a lamb” always resonates with me as I think about our middle school children.  Our children have great potential to be inspiring leaders like lions, yet also show qualities of a lamb in developing the useful tools that will help them make valuable contributions to society.  I am hopeful that the weather cooperates and we will not have any interruptions in our daily activities.

I want to thank all of the parents and teachers that came out for our first annual PVMS Curriculum Night held on Tuesday, February 27th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  We were able to share all of the great work that our students and teachers are engaged in.  A highlight of the evening was video footage showing a variety of classrooms embarking in hands on activities and critical thinking.

Key Dates – Mark you calendar

Friday, March 2nd is the midpoint of the 3rd quarter.  Please look for updated comments on Power School on Thursday, March 8th.  After reviewing your child’s progress please contact their classroom teacher(s) with any questions or concerns.

Wonder books will be going home with students on Friday, March 2nd as a gift from our PTA.  Students have completed the entire book in our home base classes and reflected in their journals.  Please share these with your families and with future generations.  We will start reading the sequel Auggie & Me beginning on Monday, March 5th as we stress what it means to be empathetic to all human beings.

Daylight Savings Time is March 11th.  Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour.

On Tuesday, March 20th there will be a 6th grade parent meeting regarding our Mandarin Chinese program.  This event will take place in our MS Cafeteria from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and is an informational night where those attending may ask questions.  Rising 7th grade students have the option of taking Mandarin Chinese or Spanish.  We will send out a sign-up document to families after this event for enrollment in a language course.

Spring Recess will take place from March 29th – April 2nd.  There will be no school for students and staff.  Enjoy this time with your family and friends.

Partnership through communication

With all of the events occurring in the world around us, I want to remind you to open up the line of communication with your children.  Speak with them on a daily basis and ask:

  • Who did you sit with at lunch?
  • What was your favorite part of the day?
  • What questions did you ask your teacher?
  • Did you say good morning to your principal?
  • What are your goals and aspirations?

When having these conversations we form relationships.  When tough situations occur, our children will communicate and look for advice.  We continue to stress that you share information with school personnel that will help our school community.  If students see something, please remind them to say something.  Our school is a safe place where we focus on not only academics, but also the social and emotional wellbeing of all children.  If you have any questions please remember to call the Middle School and we will get you the information you need.

We look forward to a magnificent March as our students continue to grow.

Sincerely,

Travis W. McCarty
