Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

And we’ve made it to June! Our PVES school days are filled with learning activities, assemblies, parent events, performances, and wonderful whole-school activities that are designed to celebrate all that our students have accomplished this year. Our students are still learning and working hard each day, and we thank you for supporting great school attendance and work habits. Our Spirit Week will take place next week (June 13-17) with a special dress theme planned for each day. Our whole-school Field Day is planned for Thursday, June 16th, with a rain date of June 17th.  We are all looking forward to the fun!

It is time to return all school Library books! Please check your child’s backpack and your home for any school library books that have been borrowed. Our book exchange will start up again in September!

Congratulations to our fourth-grade students on their amazing Band & Chorus Concert that took place this past week. Our Auditorium was filled with proud family and friends as these students performed their last show on the elementary stage. It was a wonderful evening!

Thank you to our PTA for all their amazing support this year. This week, we look forward to a dynamic assembly for our K-2 students. We also thank the Putnam Valley Education Foundation for all they do to support our schools. The PVEF Casino Night will be held this Friday, June 10th! Please see the website www.pvefny.org for more information.

This week, we look forward to welcoming our PVHS Senior Class return to the elementary school for the annual Cap & Gown Walk for staff and students. This is always such a touching event, as our elementary students are able to see the pride and success of our graduating seniors as they walk the halls of where their formal education began. Congratulations to the PVHS Class of 2022. You have certainly overcome many challenges to get to this point, and we are so very proud of you!

Our fourth-grade students will be taking the written part their NYS Science Exam tomorrow. Thank you to our fourth-grade teachers (and all K-3 teachers as well) for preparing our students so well for these comprehensive assessments. Our students are such scientific thinkers, and our new Science Lab has been a very busy place of learning and critical thinking throughout this school year. Thank you to Mrs. Broas for supporting our science learning throughout all grade levels K-4 in this lab. It is a very busy, engaging place to learn!

Please be reminded that schools will be closed on Monday, June 20th, in honor of Juneteenth. Our elementary school will dismiss at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 23rd, and Friday, June 24th. Report Cards will be made available online by the end of the day on June 24th. Hard copies of these Report Cards will be sent via U.S. mail by the last week of June.

In order to support continued skills and learning throughout the summer months, our teachers will be sending home Summer Packets for our students to complete (voluntarily) at home. The Summer Reading Challenge will also take place, with reading check-ins/book exchange being held on Tuesdays at our main office throughout July and August. We will also be hosting another Summer Academic Boost Week (August 15-18) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM each day, for students exiting grades K-4. This is a free program for families, and we look forward to a great week of skill review and fun. Transportation will be provided. More information to come!

Enjoy this beautiful weather week! Thanks again for being such positive partners in your children’s education. We are all so lucky to be working together!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta
