Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Happy Thursday! As you know, there will be no school for students tomorrow, Friday, May 24th, or Monday, May 27th, in honor of Memorial Day. We thank all of those who have served our country, and we honor those whose lives were lost this Memorial Day. Schools will reopen on Tuesday, May 28th.

Thank you to our Putnam Valley community for passing our School Budget with the vote that took place this past Tuesday. We are so fortunate to be able to provide our students with high-quality programs and instruction. Thank you for your support.

We had a wonderfully busy week here with three days of Kindergarten screening. We greatly enjoyed welcoming our newest students who will join us here at PVES this September, along with their caring parents. Thank you to all staff members who assisted with the screening process. This will be the PVHS graduating class of 2032!

Our PTA Arts in Education provided our classes with a wonderful environmental assembly this week titled “Sustainable Sounds.” The children loved learning about making instruments and music with recycled materials and trash. This is a wonderful introduction to our school-wide Sustainability Festivals that will be taking place in early June.

Next week, we will have Dr. Cassie Yackley here to talk to staff and parents about social emotional health, and trauma-informed schools. Dr. Yackley is the Director of the Center of Behavioral Health Innovation at Antioch College. Dr. Yackley has developed effective strategies to cultivate “safe and supportive schools using the trauma-responsive framework.” We are happy to welcome parents who would like to attend this valuable workshop at PVES on May 29th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. If you cannot make the evening meeting, you are welcome to join a daytime workshop at either 9:00 to 11:00, or from 1:00 to 3:00, at PVES on Wednesday, May 29th. If interested, please email me directly at mpodesta@pvcsd.org by Tuesday, May 28th. Thank you!

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend. We look forward to welcoming the children back for the final stretch of the school year on Tuesday, May 28th.

Warmly,
Ms. Podesta
