Putnam Valley Elementary School

Dear PVES Families,

Our month of May is incredibly busy with many special learning activities, performances, field trips, and great academic events for all.  Congratulations to our fourth-grade classes who performed their spring concert for both students and families yesterday.  These talented children made us so proud with their beautiful instrumental and vocal music and their lovely poise on stage. Thank you to Mrs. Bennett and to Mrs. Calhoun for all of your efforts!

Our PV District Budget Vote day is this Tuesday, May 21st!  Please be sure to vote, and make sure that your elementary parent voice is heard.  Voting will take place from 6 AM to 9 PM in the PVES cafeteria.  Students will still be able to purchase lunches in the cafeteria that day, but they will be eating in their classrooms.  Thank you for taking the time to vote!

Congratulations to the all of the finalists who participated in our PTA 3rd/4th Grade Spelling Bee this past Monday!  The competitors were simply amazing with their grace under pressure, and, of course, their amazing spelling abilities!  All finalists were incredibly impressive on stage.  Congratulations to Kate, Nicholas, Lorena, Kylee, and Nina, and a big congratulations to Lilly, who was the grand champion of the evening!  Thank you to our PTA for bringing back this wonderful event, and thank you to our volunteer teachers who served as Spelling Bee judges!

On this past Monday, PVES held its annual Community Read Day!  Local business people, retired teachers, administrators, and other special guests were invited to join us for a morning of reading to our K-4 classes. This is always such a special day, and we thank all of our guests for taking the time to share their love of literacy with our students.  Thank you also to Mrs. Dawn Vaccaro, who painted another beautiful book poster for our school that has now been signed by all of our guest readers.  We appreciate that so much, Mrs. Vaccaro!

The week ahead looks like another busy one, before our long weekend in honor of Memorial Day.  Our incoming Kindergarten students and parents will be joining us for Kindergarten screening next week, and our fourth-grade students will soon begin their hands-on NYS Science testing.  Our PTA Arts in Education has organized a wonderful Sustainability assembly for our students, and our Cove Care lessons continue for all grade levels.  There will be no school on Friday, May 24th, or Monday, May 27th, in honor of Memorial Day.  Schools will reopen on Tuesday, May 28th.

We are heading into the final 5 weeks of this school year.  Please support your students in giving their very best in all that they do, and to continue with their strong work habits and best behaviors both in and out of school.  We are so very proud of them!

Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Warmly,
Ms. Podesta
