Dear PVHS Families,
The colder weather is upon us which means the end of the first quarter is here. Grades and comments will be posted in PowerSchool by Thursday, November 18th. Please review your child’s grades and contact their guidance counselor if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress.
Last week’s Blood Drive sponsored by the National Honor Society was a huge success producing 61 pints of blood, a record for PVHS! We thank Mrs. Penta, and all those who both coordinated the drive and donated their precious blood. Every 2 seconds in the United States, someone needs a blood donation and the efforts of our students are greatly appreciated by the New York Blood Center.
This month we will hold our Mu Alpha Theta and our World Languages Honor Society inductions. If you would like to review Honor Society requirements please visit our webpage that has a link with all important Honor Society information.(Honor Society Information 21-22)
We will also be celebrating the Arts this month with our annual ASPIRE recognition and our Gratitude Festival. Our ASPIRE Contest winner this year is Treat Thorpe. The contest winner is based on the student who best reflects our ASPIRE PVHS values through artwork. Treat’s drawing of the world being lifted by individuals will hang in the Junior-Senior Lounge along with other past winners from the last five years. This year, the Gratitude Festival which will be held on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and is sponsored by our Tri-M Music Honor Society. This year Mr. Odell will feature several alumni along with current PVHS students singing and playing some familiar tunes to warm our hearts for the season.
Our Community Lunch is still very popular for students. With everyone having a scheduled lunch at the same time, students can join with their friends and decompress while eating. Most days, our Wellness Center, Gym and Weight Room are open for students to participate in physical activity. We also have several clubs meeting each day as well as student academic support if needed. This year we also have a beautifully renovated Courtyard for students to eat outside or get some fresh air. For student safety, students who wish to eat outside must do so in the Courtyard and will not be allowed in front of the building where traffic is flowing. This is to ensure our students are well protected from any potential intruders.
As a reminder, PVHS is not an open campus. While your children are at school, it is our responsibility to supervise your children and keep them safe. As a result, please adhere to the sign in/sign out procedures that are in place. We do not allow students to leave the building through side exits or let students leave and return to the building without a parent physically signing them in. This allows us to know who is leaving the building for attendance purposes and monitor who is in the building for safety reasons.
