Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

It’s been one whole year since we left school last spring for remote learning, and it is with a happy heart that we welcome a majority of our students back into the building this April! When students return from Spring Break this Tuesday, April 6th, the schedule will be an EVEN (2,4,6,8 A day).

The weather is expected to be very nice this week! As a result, we encourage students to go outside for lunch and have windows open in the classrooms. Our building is very safe, and there has been no known spread of COVID within the building. However, according to the New York State Department of Health, masks are still required, and 6ft of physical distancing is mandated to prevent quarantine. The Putnam County Department of Health dictates that when an individual has been symptomatic for COVID in school, anyone within 6 feet for longer than 10 minutes must quarantine. This situation is frustrating for everyone. Please help us to minimize the risk of quarantine and make physical distancing a priority!

Throughout this pandemic, it has been a challenge to give our students the experiences they have become accustomed to at PVHS. Most recently, the TheaterWorks Club, under the direction of Dr. Micera, compiled a series of student-written stories to perform entitled “Voices from the Pandemic.” The students showed great maturity and profound insight, sharing their truths from this past year. Please take some time to watch their beautiful performances! https://youtu.be/ar2y2F9fYu8

The pandemic has significantly disrupted our athletic seasons as well. As a result, we are in the midst of football season in the middle of April. These short seasons have not been easy for our student-athletes. However, we are grateful that sporting events have been able to go on as scheduled for this spring. During the “winter season,” the Girls Basketball team won the Regional Championship! We are so happy that the season ended on a positive note for the group, who was once again able to bring a championship home.

Some more good news from our school, we are very proud to announce that Alliyah Steele and Donna Cochancela were among a group of students from the region who won the Putnam County Youth Award for Outstanding Community Service! Their commitment to helping others and dedication to service is a model for us all. It’s amazing what so many students have been able to accomplish during this disrupted year of school.

Thank you for your continued support. I hope you all had a joyful Spring Break!

Sincerely,
Sandra Intrieri
