Dear PVES Families,

Happy PV Pride Day! We are celebrating the first Friday of the month today, and our blue and white colors are everywhere. We are looking forward to a very colorful time of Spirit Week from Monday, June 14th through Friday, June 18th. The dress-up themes are as follows:

Monday, June 14th (Flag Day):  Red, White, and Blue!

Tuesday, June 15th:  Mismatch or Crazy Sock Day (your choice, or both)

Wednesday, June 16th:  Crazy Hair or Crazy Hat Day (or both)

Thursday, June 17th:  Field Day (Grade level T-shirt day)

Friday, June 18th: “Extra” Blue and White PV Pride Day (show that spirit!)

Thank you for assisting your children with being prepared for these great days of spirit, community, and school pride!

Our fourth graders will be taking the NYS Science Written Test on this Monday, June 7th.  This will take up a small portion of the morning, and we know our students will do very well.  The hands-on portion of this test was cancelled for this year.

Our fourth-grade classes will also be participating in the in-person Moving Up Ceremonies on Wednesday, June 23rd.  Tickets will be collected at the door, with limited seating for each class’s celebration.  We look forward to celebrating this wonderful group of students as they move to the middle school.

During the week of June 14th, all classes will be able to visit the Auditorium where “The Big Book Give-away” will be taking place. Each student will be able to choose a book to take home to keep. Thank you to Mrs. Broas for arranging this special event at the end of the school year!

Our Field Day is scheduled for the morning of Thursday, June 17th.  Students will be invited to wear their Field Day T-shirts, or grade level colors, that day. No parents will be allowed to visit for Field Day, but we will be sure to post lots of pictures.  We are all looking forward to the fun!

Thursday, June 24th, will be a half-day of school, with a 12:00 PM dismissal.  There will be no school for students on Friday, June 25th.  Our rubric-based Report Cards will be available online that Friday, and hard copies of these reports will be sent via U.S. mail the following week.

It looks like we will be experiencing a bit of a heat wave next week. Please know that our school classrooms and common areas are air conditioned. Children should bring refillable water bottles, as there are water stations available throughout the school.  If the fields are extremely hot or humid, recess will be inside.

As we approach the end of this school year, I would like to send our best wishes to Ms. Jenette Mistretta, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, as she leaves her position at the end of this month and moves on to new opportunities. Ms. Mistretta has worked as an elementary teacher and as an Assistant Principal of PVES, and she will be greatly missed by all.  Ms. Mistretta has put great effort into the success of this building for many years, and she has certainly become a treasured friend of mine.  We will miss you, Jenette!

Have a wonderful weekend ahead. Stay cool, and get ready for a busy few weeks ahead!

Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
