Dear PVES Families,
Congratulations to all our students and staff (and parents) on an amazing first week of school! Our students are settling into their bright new classrooms quickly and smoothly, and our learning activities have already begun. We look forward to seeing all our parents and guardians at our Back-to-School Nights this week. Our Back-to-School Night for parents of students in Grades 3 and 4 will be held on Tuesday, September 9th. Our Back-to-School Night for parents of students in Grades 1 and 2 will be held on Wednesday, September 10th. These events begin at 6:30, and all adults can arrive anytime between 6:30 and 7:00 PM. During the first 30 minutes, our Special Area teachers and Professional Support Staff will be available to say hello and discuss their programs, so feel free to stop in to see them in their specific locations. We will then all gather in the Auditorium at 7:00 for a full meeting. At about 7:20, you will move to your child’s classroom where you will hear a great deal of curriculum and scheduling information from your child’s teacher. We are aiming to have 100% parent/guardian attendance on these evenings. Thank you so much for joining us!
Thank you to our PTA and to all the families who were able to join us for the PTA/PVES Back-to-School Picnic this week! What a wonderful evening this was! We had more families than ever before join us for this event, complete with icy treats, shared desserts, and the Bubble Bus! Thank you to all who made this possible!
All students who participated in our Summer Reading Challenge should bring their Reading Logs to school so that they can be turned into the main office. We will be distributing prizes later this month to all participants. Please keep reading daily!
Schools will be closed on Tuesday, September 23rd, and Wednesday, September 24th in honor of Rosh Hashanah. Schools will also be closed on Thursday, October 2nd, in honor of Yom Kippur. Our PVES School Picture Day will be held on Monday, September 29th. Please reach out to the PTA if you can volunteer some time on this day.
As homework routines begin in all classes this week, we thank you for supporting a structured school night routine for your child, with an early bedtime and very limited screen time. We appreciate your partnership in establishing a strong foundation for learning, responsibility, organization, and good work habits, both at home and at school. This structure will benefit your child for years to come.
Thank you also for sending healthy snacks to school each day. Children should only be drinking water at snack time (no juice, energy drinks, soda, etc.), and water bottles can be refilled at our water filling stations when necessary. Our students are enjoying our newly painted Cafeteria with our brand-new lunch tables. The school looks amazing, and it is even more beautiful now that the children have returned!
Congratulations to Mrs. Leslie Castellanos, one of our elementary teachers, on the birth of her son, Liam, this past week. Congratulations also to Mr. Tom Wharton on the birth of his son, Finn, and to Mrs. Theresa Boryk on the birth of her daughter, Mia, over the summer! So much happy news, and we love to celebrate together!
Enjoy the week ahead and the beautiful fall weather on the way! As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help, and we want every day to be a great one.
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
Principal
