Dear PVES Families,

It has been a short but busy week at PVES, and our wonderful students are quickly settling into the routines of our new school year.  Our school community enjoyed a lovely picnic last Friday, and we thank the PTA for all they did to arrange this yearly event.  I would also like to thank the PTA/Arts in Ed for the exciting Steve Max Simon Sez Assemblies that all of our students enjoyed today.  This opening year assembly focused on Character Education and Respect.  It was a great way to celebrate our positive school culture at the beginning of the year!

Thank you to all of our 3rd and 4th grade parents who were able to attend our Back to School Night last night.  We greatly appreciate the positive communication between home and school, and we hope that you will reach out to your child’s teachers directly with any questions or concerns.  I thank all of our teachers for all they have done to insure a smooth and organized start to the school year.  This has made all the difference to our students.

There will be no school on this Wednesday, September 19th, in honor of Yom Kippur.  Schools will reopen on Thursday, September 20th.  School pictures will be taken on Monday, October 1st.  Picture re-take day is scheduled for Friday, November 9th.

Each week when you read the Weekly Word, please be sure to always check the Weekly Notices that you might want to print out at home.  If you are in need of a hard copy of the Weekly Word and attachments each week, please contact our main office. We will be glad to provide that for you.  You can also check the www.pvcsd.org website under Elementary, and then under Parent Resources, for any district forms that might pertain to your child.

Just another reminder to please always send in a bus note with your child if there is a change in dismissal plans.  These notes are extremely important to our dismissal process, and without them, confusion can occur.  If you have questions about weekly dismissal plans that vary from day to day, please contact Mrs. Donna Sillery at 845-528-8092.  We appreciate the fact that dismissal plans are set early in the morning, and not last minute in the day.  Thank you for your cooperation.

If your child has not yet brought in the signed Bus, Cafeteria, and Recess Contract, it is time to do so.  We take the safe and respectful behavior very seriously, and we thank you for your support in having the students wear seatbelts on the buses.  Our students are doing a great job this year, and this makes every day safer and smoother.

As the school year settles in, it is important to have the homework and bedtime routines clearly established at home.  Be sure to save time for reading together each night, and to set a positive tone to the school work and preparedness.  We also appreciate you stressing good attendance and punctuality with your students from the start of the year.  Good attendance has a dramatic effect on school success!

We look forward to seeing the parents of students in Grades 1 and 2 at our Back to School Night on Monday, September 17th.  The evening begins at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium, but if parents would like to meet with our professional support staff (AIS, ENL, counseling, speech) at 6:30, these teachers will be in the library at that time.  Please join us.  We look forward to another positive, informative evening.

Enjoy the weekend ahead!  I look forward to working with you throughout the year.

Warmly,
Ms. Podesta
Principal
