Dear PVES Families,
We are looking forward to our first 5-day week of school for students this year! The children are doing such a great job adjusting to the new school year, and we truly appreciate your support. Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who attend our Back to School Nights this week. If you have any further questions regarding school day schedules, homework expectations, or curriculum, please reach out to us. We are a team!
We are so happy to share that our new PVES Playground is ready for use! The new purple and blue equipment is so inviting, including handicap access, safe activities for young children, and lots of climbing, sliding, and sensory pieces. The children will be asked to avoid walking on the surrounding area of dirt where the grass will be growing for a bit, but the turf and the playground itself are ready. Please join us at our PVES/PTA Picnic this Thursday at 5:00. This is not a drop-off event, so please be sure to supervise your children, bring your picnic dinner, blankets and chairs, and even a dessert treat to share. Looking forward to a wonderful community evening!
This summer, many of our PVES students participated in the Summer Reading Challenge. If your child has not yet handed in the Summer Reading Log, please have it returned to school this week. Small prizes will be distributed soon. Thank you for continuing to read with your children on a daily basis. This is so very important!
Our Arrival and Dismissal times are going smoothly. If you are picking up your child at the end of the school day, this must be done at 3:20 at the cafeteria door. We kindly ask that you avoid picking up your child between 2:55 and 3:20 PM each day, as this is a very busy time of day in our main office. Thank you for making note of this.
We would like to thank our new PTA board who provided a wonderful Welcome Back Breakfast for our faculty this week, and who are already planning innovative student events for the year ahead. We are so fortunate to always have active and caring PTA members in our elementary school, and we encourage you to become a member! Please also join the PVEF (Putnam Valley Education Foundation). These two organizations help our students in so many ways.
Our Evacuation (Fire) Drills will continue throughout the months of September and October, with the students practicing mandated safety practices in a calm and reassuring manner. Please remind your children that they are expected to wear their seatbelts on the school bus, and that there should be no eating on the bus, and no sharing of food during lunch or snack times. We also do not allow the students to chew gum in school, for safety reasons. Thank you!
Schools will be closed next Monday, September 21st, in observation of Yom Kippur. Our ES School Picture Day will be held on Monday, September 28th.
