Dear PVES Families,
Calling all First Responders! We are all looking forward to our PVES First Responder Day on Wednesday, October 29th, in the morning. If you or your family members or friends, who work as First Responders, would like to join us for a short time next Wednesday morning, we would love to have you. Our special visitors will be able to visit with classes, share about their important work, or read a story to a class. If interested, please email me directly at mpodesta@pvcsd.org. Thank you for your time, and thank you for all that you do!
We would like to give a very special thank you to the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department for visiting PVES this past week to teach about Fire Safety. Our wonderful volunteers stayed throughout the whole school day to visit with all grade levels, demonstrate fire safety practices, and tour the fire trucks outside. We are so thankful for this wonderful community partnership, and our students in all classes learned so much. Thank you, PVVFD!
Our elementary school will practice its first official Lockdown Drill of the school year this week. Police officers will visit our school to supervise and help to facilitate the drill, and all classes will review safety procedures in a calm and reassuring way. These mandated drills take place several times throughout the school year, and we always learn a bit more about safety practices and protocols with these drills. If you have any questions, please reach out to us.
All third and fourth graders are welcome to participate in the PVES Musical this year! Please see the information about auditions and rehearsals in the Weekly Notices. The Weekly Notices should always be checked for upcoming clubs, PTA events, and other upcoming school events in which your children may be interested.
The PVEF Trunk or Treat is coming soon! This festive event will be held in the Middle School parking lot next Sunday, October 26th, at 2:00. Please see the flyer for more details.
All staff and students are welcome to bring a Halloween costume to school on Friday, October 31st. The students and staff are invited to participate in a school parade that day. (This is not mandatory). No scary masks or props will be allowed. We will take pictures and videos to share with families, and we look forward to the fun!
In looking ahead to November, please check the school calendar carefully. Schools will be closed on Tuesday, November 4th, for students, as this is Superintendent’s Conference Day. Elementary students (only) will dismiss at 12:00 on Monday, November 10th, for our scheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences. All schools will be closed on Tuesday, November 11th, for Veterans Day. Elementary students (only) will be dismissed at 12:00 on Tuesday, November 25th. Schools will be closed on November 26th, 27th, and 28th for the Thanksgiving holiday. And then December arrives! Thank you for marking your calendars.
We look forward to our PTA Fall Book Fair which will take place at our school November 17th through 21st. Please sign up to help when you can! School Picture re-takes will take place on Friday, November 21st.
Have a wonderful week ahead! Please ask your children if they have seen our best new buddy, Mason the facility dog, at school yet. He is such a love!
Sincerely,
Dr. Margaret Podesta
