Dear PVES Families,

I hope that you have been enjoying the long holiday weekend. As the fall weather continues, please make sure that your children’s sweatshirts, jackets, and hats are labeled with at least their last names on the inside layers. Students will be going outside for recess on most days throughout the school year, and our Lost & Found Collection continues to grow.

Tomorrow is a very exciting day at PVES! Mason, our facility dog, will be joining our school staff as a daily worker in our building. This beautiful Golden Retriever will soon become part of our PVES family. We thank the Putnam Valley Education Foundation for their incredible support for this beautiful project, and we thank the BluePath Service Dogs organization for working with our administration to make this happen. Our students will soon be used to seeing Mason throughout the school day, providing comfort, reassurance, and love to our students. Mason will be our proud new PV Tiger!

This week is Fire Safety Week at PVES! On Thursday, our classes will be able to visit the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department fire trucks on our campus, and they will be learning more about fire safety and fire prevention. Thank you so much to the PVVFD for being such good neighbors. We appreciate your collaboration and the important work that you do!

We are looking forward to our annual PVES First Responders Day on Wednesday, October 29th. We welcome all local First Responder family members, neighbors, and friends to participate in our classroom visits that morning after 9:10. Our honored visitors can share information about their important work or read a story to a class. If you are interested in joining us, please email me directly at mpodesta@pvcsd.org. We thank you for your time!

Our parents and guardians will soon be receiving invitations to our in-person Parent/Teacher Conferences in mid-November, at the end of the 1st Quarter of the school year. Please be on the lookout for this communication from your child’s classroom. It is important that our teachers meet with all students’ guardians. If you would like to set up conferences with other support staff as well, you can email them directly at first initial, last name @ pvcsd.org. You will be hearing from our faculty members who work with your children.

All staff and students are welcome to wear the color “orange” on Unity Day, October 22nd. This special day correlates with our Character Education themes this month, focusing on “kindness, respect, and bullying prevention.” Please ask your child about the Character Education book being read aloud in class for October!

Enjoy the four-day week ahead! Thank you for being such wonderful teaching and learning partners!

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Podesta

Principal
