Dear PVES Families,

We have had a busy schedule this week, and we thank our parents for keeping the students on track during this busy calendar week.  There will be no school on this Monday, November 12th, in honor of Veteran’s Day.  We then look forward to four consecutive days of school next week!

Please remember that our PVES Olympics Gym Show will be held on this Wednesday, November 14th, at 7:00 PM.  We look forward to seeing our third and fourth grade participants display their athletic skills.

Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be taking place next week, from Tuesday morning through Friday morning.  The classroom teachers have a schedule for class visits to the Auditorium, and the Book Fair will also be open before the Gym Show on Wednesday evening.  Thank you for your support. I hope you find some wonderful books, either for now or for the holidays!

On Wednesday, October 14th, all PVES staff and students are invited to wear PURPLE to raise awareness for KCNB1, a rare genetic mutation that causes childhood-onset epilepsy and developmental delays.  This very rare condition affects one of our precious students, the beautiful and dynamic Sydney Zottoli.  The KCNB1 gene mutation was only just discovered in 2014, and Sydney was the 12th person in the world to receive this diagnosis.  November 14th has become National KCNB1 Awareness Day.  We would like to invite our Putnam Valley community to join us in wearing PURPLE to support our Sydney and to help raise awareness for KCNB1.  Thank you!

Please remember to vote on the PVCSD Facilities Project on December 4th.  Voting will take place at the elementary school from 6 AM to 9 PM.  Lunch will still be served from our school kitchen to our elementary students that day.

We would like to thank our local dentist, Dr. Pathak, and his registered dental hygienist, Ms. Erickson, from Envision Dental Care, for meeting with all of our students last week to discuss good dental health.  We thank Dr. Pathak and Ms. Erickson for taking the time to teach us important information about caring for our teeth, and for bringing dental supply goody bags for each student.  We learned so much, and we greatly enjoy working with members of our community!

Please be sure to contribute to our Holiday Food Drive, if possible.  It means so much for the students to see us helping others, and to understand the benefits of generosity and empathy.  The holidays are almost here, and this is a wonderful time to display acts of kindness whenever possible.  Thank you for helping us with this initiative.

Please remember that schools will be closed for the Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 21st through Friday, November 23rd.  Schools will reopen on Monday, November 26th for a full week of school!

Enjoy the long weekend ahead.  We honor our Veterans at this special time.

Warmly,

Ms. Podesta
